There have been 2 50lb WSB caught in the last week in the Bay area.  One from a charter boat out of Emeryville and the second one near the Berkely Flats old pier drifting a live chovy.

{{{{WSB}}}}  I want one...

Wow. I never knew WSB would come into the Bay.
They catch a couple every now and then.  Usually near the rockwall.  A couple years ago I hooked into a fish in oyster point while fishing for halis that took off like a rocket over 100yards - broke my leader when I got hit by a large container ship wake.  Didn't swim like a bat ray or a big halibut so I always assumed I had lost a WSB or a large striper.

That 2nd picture is the deck hand from the New Huck Finn.  Good guys, been out with them a couple of times.

Rob, I would suggest saving your PTO for if/when the bite turns on in Monterey Bay. I know you've mentioned making the run down here before, so I'll let you know if I hear good news! I predict June 2.

what lb test do folks run on say a penn jigamster 500...if there was run of WSB and a guy wanted to paddle out with a looser drag and 30 lb mono...is that a joke...

any help would be great

I would like to have one rod and reel set up for bigger fish that may be in M bay
We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

30# mono is fine on a jigmaster for WSB.  The reel will handle 10 pounds of drag, and you should be able to as well.   Neither will handle much more that that for an extended period of time.

Why not they don't exist above point conception! That is why below the point you need a ocean enhancement stamp. We wanted to put pens to raise them in Port San Luis because we can't raise Salmon here any more. Fish and game said no to the idea because we are not part of the ocean enhancement area. Incase you don't know they also shut off the Salmon enhancement pens here. It was because Salmon will ruin steelhead creeks, So those White sea bass up there do not exist according to them. Typical Government intelligence Another oxymoron. Those two words should never be used in the same sentence.
