This is my first catch since I started fishing again a couple months ago (it's been a learning process). I intended to release this guy, but I was unprepared and a funny story happened.

The fish is 18" and 1.5 pounds. Not a bad first catch. It was caught with a texas rigged zoom worm.

So I was reeling it in, and I thought that it was a snag. so I was trying to get it loose, when I finally realized it was a fish, it was already near the surface. I pulled it up, it flopped right out of the water onto the kayak. My dog has never seen a fish before, and originally tried to climb up me to get away from the fish. Then the fish tried to flop out of the kayak, and she leapt after it. She caught it mid-air and landed in the water, swam back, I pulled her out of the water, then she shook the water out of her fur. The force of the shake slammed the fish on my kayak repeatedly and killed it. Oops.

It was a learning experience and I'll be better prepared with my tools next time, but it was a fun trip. This was at Lake Del Valle, Livermore.

She sat there like a boss afterward.  :smt044

Good times.  My dog would have freaked out if it saw me pull a fish out of the water also so I can vision it.  Glad you got out and made a day of it.

What's it cost to fish DV now adays? Is it still an arm and a leg?

Yeah, a little cheaper for me since I qualify for disabled discount at $175/year. That's for parking, admittance, fishing permit, boat launch, and inspection at all East Bay Regional Parks. Considering I go to Del Valle 30-40 times a year that works out to $5 per visit. Worth it since its only 30 mins away.
