Im looking to get a new reel for jigging for cod/lings and was wondering what you guys recommend for $120 max. I really like Avet but a little too much $. Looking for a small round conventional. Abu garcia nice as is shimano. Or if anyone has one for sale ??  :smt006
Rod kinda light so will me jigging 2-4oz

I have a Lews low pro.Think it would work good for apllication?

My go to set up is Trevala with Abu6000 with the power handle upgrade. If you want to go less swap out for Ugly stick - which sounds like your budget

Spool some 30# power pro on the Lew and use the 120$ for a trevala rod.superlight weight setup and will pull rockies all day without fatigue.
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Don't want to rain on the parade, but be cautious with the Cardiff. We've had a few gentleman use this reel for stripers, and a fairly common, problem was the collar where the handle goes through the sideplate blows out causing the handle to jam. Not a problem on lighter fish like Bass or Trout, only on larger spices. My money would be on a Abu ;0)
If you want to borrow on, I have a leftie avail. if you like it, I will sale for a fair price.

You can see in this pic where the Aleve is pressed into the sideplate. Under heavy loads, this is where it has failed :0(

Just picked up cardiff size 300.. Asked about Avet reels and was told they were junk! Was trying to convince me not to go with cardiff cause they're cheaply made reels and freeze up as mentioned and to go with Abu for what i was doing.$60 more. I guess we shall see as soon as i get to test. I liked the way cardiff felt though.
#30 ppro to heavy for rockcod/lings?

I have 2 Cardiff's and have never had a problem. Don't crank the drag and reel a heavy fish in. You have to reel down and pull up, no need to put all that extra stress on the reel... I'm sure you will be happy with it

To start braided on baitcaster should i start with a little mono into braid or just tie it reel and spool it?

Be sure to put a layer of electrical tape on the spool first, than you can just tie to spool. If not, it will spin on the spool and feel like you have no drag ;0)
