I went fishing at the trestles near my house with my buddy Justin in hopes to catch the evening bite. We got a little more than we bargained for. We ended up helping a careless teenager looking to impress a couple of girls. Long story short: I noticed this kid was about to jump into the middle of the main channel with nothing but shorts on during a fast moving tide, in 50 something degree water. After watching the kid jump the first time and seeing his struggle to get to the turning bridge I called my buddy over to help in case things went south. Sure enough, the kid wasn't able to make it back across the channel where he started. Luckily we were there to help him out. The kid didn't think he was in that much trouble. Had we not been there, I think he would have probably drowned and his two little girly friends would have watched helplessly from the bridge. Here's a little video of what happened. The video makes it appear that I was fishing and happened upon the fiasco but that wasn't the case. I didn't head over to help until I saw that the kid wasn't going to make it across.

My buddy was in my Outback and this was the second rescue mission that boat has been on. I once towed an older fellow in when his Budweiser SINK flipped in some breakers and he couldn't reenter due to too much water in the boat.
I'm glad these stories had happy endings.

That easily could have turned deadly for the kid.   Not saying I wasn't that stupid when I was younger, but wouldn't do it now. I could see how the current was moving you guys around.

I have seen other fisherman who just kept fishing when they saw something like that and not bother to stick around and see If it may turn bad or not.

Nice to see stand up guys on NCKA.

Some people have suggested reporting him to the railroad company. I'm not interested in getting this kid in any trouble. I didn't get his name. I tried reaching out on facebook to see if anyone knew who he was but nobody is coming forward. I doubt he will, it's a small town. I might run into him sometime. I just want to ask him what he was thinking!

Good mojo coming your way soon, way to spin bright light on the yakers too....
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.
