Someone told me the predicted weather and temp projection this year may allow albacore close to shore this year.

I guess that would allow one to kayak for albacore.  But usually you have to troll faster than for salmon.  Has anyone ever caught tuna from their kayak and if so how was it done?

Troll a big Xrap Rapala.  You don't always have to troll for albacore.  We have stopped started chumming with rods out just hanging swimbaits or bait.  They came in and some rods went bent.

We were chumming from a boat.  I have tried to chum a big shark I saw when halibut fishing but it kept on cruising.

"close" still means 6-10 miles off either Lover's Pt, or up North off Shelter, etc

Although one year there were reports of albacore 3 miles off Pinos.

You don't need to troll fast for albacore.  Most do because they can, in order to cover ground to find the schools.  You can cover a lot of dead water before finding gold, so it's nice to cover it quickly.

When we caught albacore from a kayak, we used a mothership to help locate the schools.  Then we splashed the kayaks and trolled X-Raps and swimbaits.

I hope the blue water comes really close and we'll change this to "bluefin and opah within kayak range"!

the only fish i really want to catch from a "kayak" now up here is an Albie...

I'm putting kayak in quotes because i count my AI as a "kayak"...maybe i should say, " I want to catch an ablie from an open deck, single person, less than 17 foot long, piece of tupperware"

We payed normal rates, but this was up in Oregon.  And that outfit no longer exists.

Finding a charter with the right insurance is the hardest part.  The normal charter insurance doesn't cover clients leaving the boat.  If run dive charters, they likely have the right insurance.

I am chomping at the bit now.  No matter what I am going out for them this year.  It would just be so cool to try on a kayak.
