WoW!!!
Now that is one awesome photo journal in the making!
Epic adventure everybody! Now I Really want to go to AK!

Where is the rest of the story? Was it an orca, hitchhiking on a 200-pound halibut???!

And I agree, that smiley is way too weird...probably designed for a different type of message board...

We have a few more "weird and interesting" stories from the trip.  This trip had a bunch of these weird occurances.

For instance, I was working what felt to be an OK fish up from the bottom, when all of a sudden, my line goes completely slack.  When I got to the top, the slido I was using was busted and the 16 ounce sinker was gone.  It appeared that the the fish had latched onto the sinker until it broke it off.   :dontknow:

Pat had another mystery event.  She had sent down a small dusky rockfish with a distinctive mark and hooked through the upper lip.  Pat was looking for lings.  When she reeled back in, the mark was gone and the dusky was hooked through the lower lip.  It appears the original dusky got off only to be replaced by another one.   :evil4:

On the last day on the skiff, I had a monster hit on a cut plug herring.  And I mean MONSTER.  :tongue2:  The rod was bent over as far as I've seen it bent and line was peeling out at a very fast pace.  I though perhaps I hooked a late king.  Then the fish ran straight towards the boat, as in all the way to the boat.  I thought I had lost it, but it was still there.  Then it went on another long run.  We got a look at the fish and it was another 10# class silver.  Perhaps this was just one very hot fish?  Or perhaps a seal was chasing it?  It turns out I had a belly hooked silver, which made for a great fight.

And yet another event.  I had just landed a chicken butt and I noticed a long fresh cut, perhaps 10-12", along its dorsal ridge from the head all the way down to the fin.  It was like someone had started to filet the fish.  The only thing I can guess is that perhaps the circle hook had dragged along the top of the fish on the first hit somehow cutting it.  Then the fish circled back and took the bait in its mouth.

And yet another Brian story.  On the first day we were on the skiff we were trolling home.  I was cleaning fish when Brian had a great hit.  I'll let Brian finish this story too ...  :angel4:

You don't give Brian enough credit.  I think that every single day we were there, Brian was up BEFORE noon!   :smt005  Heck, I think on a couple of the days he was even up before sunrise.

I'll tell the rest of the story on the second one as I had a hand in it, but really, Brian should do the honors on the first.  It his exciting story after all, and I don't want to steal all his thunder.

So Brian gets a good hit.  He's reeling it in.  "It feels like a nice fish," he tell us.  We're all getting happy to end the day on such a good note.  Slowly the fish comes to the boat.  Finally we see color, and what comes up.  Well ... let's just say that this fish had already been cleaned by me, and I had thrown the carcass overboard.  Somehow Brian's rod managed to hook up on it.  And yes, it WAS a nice fish, well, at least when it still had its filets attached!   :smt003

Allen - You are an excellent storyteller. Based on the way going, Brian's story got to be REALLY funny. We could wait, but you should just finish it up. So people on the board would not hate you, but love you instead. I were you, I would prefer the later.  :smt002

Heck, I'm just cracking up over the part where we're all slapping the water with our paddles.  That in itself was truly CLASSIC!!! :laughing6:
