Cant sleep... Made the mistake of downloading Standford's sharknet app... Tracks GWS on the coast...  Tomales Point has 14 sharks this morning in a 1 mi radius..within 5 minutes of eachother. Show pics, names, encounters of each shark... Yikes!!

I would think that large presence and being off the point like that could push target fish in closer. I am a glass half full guy so I think looks like a good morning for fishing in between the sharks and the shore...

And I would question the data, not so much to be a naysayer, but to know it's right before I go "Holy Shit".

I don't know that much about it, just a listener on nature shows and reader of other like articles,

But seems to me there aren't that many tagged sharks, meaning that there is some percentage of the whole population that is tagged, which means if there's 14 pings and say 10% of the population is tagged (probably much less than 10) then there's likely a whole bunch more out there.

Thanks for the app, Food for Thought for sure.

Look near Ano Nuevo and also the Farrallon Islands, especially the Farrallons.

I like the way you think.  Just don't get caught between the land lords and their meal :smt002

I would guess that there is something large they are feeding on.  Maybe a whale carcas?

Classic....

From now on when O2B looks at me at Bodega and says we should stay away from Tomales probably... I see what he means....

Farallons are loaded too many to count...

No sharks showing South of SC

There was 1 shark up at Bodega this morn just for the record. 14ft male named Tom Johnson...

Ok im done. Back to normal programming....

Craig, the SharkNet App is only available in the Apple store...not available for Androids yet.
But I recall the MB Aquarium had a website that tracked different types of sea creatures (from turtles to sharks), so I'm trying to find the site for you. Ahh, here it is! http://www.gtopp.org/

In the meantime, I found this other one called Ocearch: http://www.ocearch.org/ but it's mainly Atlantic white sharks.
Plus an interesting article, that came from the Ocearch tracking. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/03/140311-great-white-shark-atlantic-ocean-crossing-animal-science/

Thanks Pat
I will look at those links now-pretty cool stuff
My Gal  has a new 'I phone' SP? and then a bit later she got a shark app that claimed to show real time  Monterey Bay ,she was complaining that it freezes up and is kind of junk ,like she cant get any decent info, she did say once that she got a update about a shark pinging off Carmel .
The reviews I saw said that the app needed more work and was a waste of time-this was months back

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/shark-net-predators-blue-serengeti/id542042032?mt=8

I want say it was this app she got-I may be able to work it on her phone but have been trying to avoid holding any nice phones, then I will want one-my 10 dollar flip phones get broke-dunked-cracked about 3-5 times a year,so no 500 Dollar phones needed here-even if the first one is free etc

Would be cool to look at AFTER the season is over and see if you were on the water at the same time as any tagged sharks....but I'm not ever checking it before I go out. Just one more thing. I already have to worry about the wind and the swells.

Yep!

And of course there's no sharks south of SC. :smt002
