OMG. That is a once in a lifetime/ end of your lifetime experience. Amazing footage, but I can't say I'm envious of the diver.

That's the way I feel.  Once you see one you can relax, it's probably just curious.  If it wants to hit you it will be a surprise attack.

seems to be the way stories go...see one.. it leaves...although

I did see one guy on a shark week episode who was diving on tanks years back at lobos and saw one go by slowly near him in the kelp!...he wanted to go tell his dive  buddies there was GWS around....and turned to swim/all he saw was a big hole with teeth around it coming at him full speed...bit down by his chest but caught his tank and gear on his chest too and did not get a good chomp because of that..shook him and then let go and left...but still fucked him up a bit...I just remember/made a mental note--- of his story-- cause he said he saw it cruising by slow !!!!and then after it went by  it must have came back around again moments later in full tilt charge......worth noting I would think for behavior traits
I did not post this clip to be scary or spread fear/thrill seeking etc...
I posted it because it was recent ...and it was good footage of size related to fins etc...Not going to keep me from going diving soon at all--good behavior info for my minds eye imo

I dont think I'll be waste deep tonight for 2 hours at Carmel beach when I go go surf casting...come to think of it ..I  wont even be getting my feet wet tonight...see how close that GWS is to the foam in the asilomar picture from  this week.....camera angle-- trick of the eye maybe...I know I wear swim trunks and get caught belly button high on big long sets---it has crossed my mind recently that I'm doing a great seal imitation in the foam for hours at a time...hahahaha....better re-group that plan... :smt003 :smt003 :smt003 :smt003

FWIW...
I had one member tell me when they first read my report about my GWS kayak chase story...they thought B.S dude...

and I'm sure folks saw the point lobos thing and thought i was being dramatic or seeking attention, not sure how to put it really..thought B.S dude......or for sure the FB picture today from my buddy and think I'm pulling your leg about it being this weeks picture...or my buddy is pulling my leg etc...

And I get it...I mean....there is stuff I see other places ,hell almost every day there is something I  see and dont believe or think B.S dude..

my only thing here...like about me being out alone on my yak and getting picked on by GWS..and folks thinking I made it up..or saw whale etc.....is why would someone/I make that up,,,what good could it bring me to say I saw the easter bunny for real???does not make sense that folks would want to fake a sighting...to me

anyhow...fucking cool shit man...I thought that tagging study someone posted in the GWs thread said they all leave for mid ocean (that were tagged )by march....someone should tell them...I think the little ones 6...8...12 footers...stick around...maybe for salmon season  :smt002

Haha I definitely thought BS when I first read your story Craig! But I believe it now.
There is a general pattern they follow, but they're still very unpredictable. Kinda like the honey badger...white sharks do whatever the F they want.
Saw a teaser on the news last week of 2 sightings near Aptos. So I went to find the story and stumbled across this story from 2012 instead. This was like 2wks after Mel got attacked in Capitola. Wonder if it's the same shark. And I wonder how big she is today.

What if it was two sharks working as a team?

I don't think they're that smart, or at least not that cooperative. If orcas had a taste for humans, then we'd all be in trouble.

Its crazy how orcas charge icebergs to throe water over the top and wash the seals into the water...
