I drove past this today and wondered if it would make a useable launching spot. I just read online that it reopened last October after being closed for 10 years. You get there from 580 in Richmond. Take the last exit just before the toll plaza heading towards San Rafael. It is called Stenmark but used to be western drive. I don't know if the "beach" is mud flat or what. I could see what looked to be two strips of gravel that have been laid crossing the flats towards the water. It looks like the gravel makes for easier access to the water at low tide. I only drove by so I didn't get to look up close. Anyone familiar with this location?

I have driven over there numerous times. The launch looks primo. I just thought leaving the truck unattended was kind of sketchy.

I think the charter boat " The Fury " used to be docked in that area.
used to go salmon and halibut fishing in it back in the 90's
I wonder if they are still around.

I suppose anyplace unguarded can be sketchy. It didn't seem too bad to me. There seemed to be some security driving around related to the refinery across the street. I suppose it can vary by day of the week, but it looked like there wasn't much reason to be hanging around looking for trouble. It's kind of isolated so people aren't just happening along, you pretty much have to go out of your way to be there. In my opinion most people looking to enjoy the outdoors are not looking to break and enter vehicles. That plus the security related to the refinery seems like trouble makers would look for better pickings. If the fishing and launching is good, it looks like the picnic area would make a good spot to hold an event at. Next time I'm in the area I'll stop and check it out.

I suppose to me it just didn't feel too good because of the close proximity to Richmond. Not that a smash and grab can't happen anywhere. I talked to a security guard that was working the Chevron perimeter. He verified it.

That area is really isolated so even the tweeters dont go there.plus its in the industrial area.the few times I've been there didn't see much activity. Id be more worried about my vehicle at point richmond.but the few times ive been there I was just shore fishing

I'm not sure what he verified.

That it was sketchy leaving an unattended vehicle there.

I got a chance to go back and take a closer look. I passed two security guards sitting on the road a short distance from the park. There were a couple families enjoying the park at the time. If I were looking to do a smash and grab I wouldn't choose a place where everyone could see what was happening and in an area with security patrols up and down the road. Still, it's Richmond. The only way down to the beach is some steps. The last photo in the third post shows the steps. This is what the park looks like.

The first photo in this group shows the path in from the parking lot to the steps. The last photo in this group is of the steps.
