I'm shopping around for a fish finder for my 2014 Hobie Outback - with the built-in Lowrance transducer mount.  I have read some good reviews on the new Lowrance Elite-4 HDI combo unit.  Hoping for some feedback from others that have greater experience and knowledge of such things.   Thanks for any thoughts/feedback.  Lowrance product link:  http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Fishfinder-Chartplotter/Elite-4-HDI-en-us.aspx

IMO, the screen is too small to review all of that information at the same time. Even 2 screens on something that size is pushing it.

I think the HDI transducer will fit but you might want to double check. Hobie probably thought of this but HDI transducer is bigger than the regular sonar.

Here's a good thread on the hobie site about the ELite series fitting in the lowrance ready scupper.

Agreed! The Elite 4 screen is very small, so make sure to mount it close to your seat.

The 4 is fairly small.  Larger than their previous '4' series though.  I believe this one is like 4.3" diag whereas the older '4' was 3.5" diag.  I'd have to look it up to be certain of these numbers but I do know it is now larger & over 4" diag.

I think i'm in love with that FF!!!   :smt007 Anyone want to buy a Elite 4-DSI?  Just a few letters different!  :smt044 I dont wear glasses so I can see the Elite 4 just fine on my OB, mounted in the Sail Mast hole.  :smt002 A little larger would be nice though, but I returned my Elite 5-DSI because I felt the thing was too heavy and expensive for me and kayaking.  I've seen some installs with it much closer mounted on the right side of the yak and much closer... but I like to keep both sides free and clear.

Does that include the transducer though?  Seems like that is the "sale" pricepoint of the unit w/o transducer.

Its advertised in their Spring Fishing Special circular.

The $199 is for the Elite-4X HDI, the one without the GPS.

But, btw, they are selling the Elite 5 HDI for $499 with free lake insight map and free sun cover, plus offer triple crown bonus from March 12-16, which includes 3X BPS points,  free installation, 3 year coverage of gear guard premium, which could be useful for a kayak guy.  That's a decent deal.

Ok, the Elite 4x HDI @ $199 makes sense.

The Elite 5 HDI for $499 & all the "extras" is a GREAT deal!  Not sure if the free install applies to a kayak or not but still a great deal.
