I received an unexpected call March 20th which has prevented me for being more informative sooner.  Thank you all for your patience.

So, Here's the details for the 3rd Annual Gyotaku Extravaganza!

The event will be held on Saturday May 17th following the GS8 tournament from 2:30pm -4:30pm at the campground – same location as last year kayak/gear wash station near bathrooms. Location and information of the event will also be announced at the mandatory meeting Friday evening.  This event is open to all ages attending GS8.  Children must have parental supervision to participate.  NO exceptions!

This event does not happen successfully without the great help of volunteers to help me. This year Kara LaVoie, her 3 yr old son (to provide artistic direction) and Jeff/Codzilla’s wife will be assisting me setting up 12-2pm. The plan is to be ready for all those interested in fish print by or just before 2:30pm.  Please allow us to fully set up before you come over. Additionally, Sarah Kingstrom, Sarah’s daughters, Shannon Jay and “Rockman” will help with the event once they are off the water and checked in their catch. Thank you Volunteers!!. I can use more volunteers so please let me know if you also want to help volunteer. More the merrier! Volunteers, please PM me your email address so that I can provide you more volunteer info. Thanks!

Changes for this year - There will be more clothes pins and hangers for finished prints/shirts and a 10x10 tent to help shade a table or two as well provide more hanging areas.  Ink will be distributed by volunteers this year. To insure we can all comfortably arrive to enjoy the potluck festivities at 5:30pm, last ink to be provided will be at 4:15pm - NO exceptions late comers!

I will have at least two to three tables for your fish printing creativity.  Provided will be newsprint, fabric paint (black, white, red, yellow, and blue), brushes, and possibly a limited amount of donated white t-shirts.  Bringing your own t-shirt(s), paper, table cloth, chef’s apron, whatever material you want to print your fish on is highly encouraged.  The only thing you need to bring is a fish (we will not be providing fish) and the desire to make a print with it.  Please remember to take your fish with you after printing!

Once you have finished your fish print/shirt, we can take a photo of you and your print/shirt to share here on NCKA (optional) and hang your print / shirt to dry.

We will have a fish washing station to rinse the paint off your fish too.

This year, participants were able to pre-order official GS8 3rd annual Gyotaku shirts logo’d with ‘Gimme Shelter Gyotaku’ (image to come) on one side, blank on the other for you to print your fish.  For those who did order one of these shirts, if you WEAR your fish printed ‘Gimme Shelter Gyotaku’ t-shirt to the potluck, you have an opportunity to win $100 for best Gimme Shelter t-shirt!  Sorry, blank or the GS8 shirts that come with your registration are not eligible – but you can still print a fish on them if you want :)
I asked a while ago if there was interested in having flags available this year to print on and have received no interest.  Unless I hear from at least 5 people that flags are desired (I will be suggesting a $5 donation to offset costs) by Wednesday May 7th, I will not have canvas material & poles available for you to make a fish print flag. If 15 people commit, then we will also have a ‘best fish printed flag’ contest with chance to win $50! Again, deadline to express interest/commit is May 7th.

Who’s judging the contest?!
I will randomly select 3-5 individuals at the potluck to be the judges. Those who want to have their prints judged will line up for judging (remember you are wearing your t-shirts) just before the GS8 awards. To allow time for the judges to determine who is the respective winners are, winners will be announced following the tournament awards. No, I am not eligible to enter the contest.  Volunteers are, but I am not.

Let’s get ready to print fish!!!!

Questions?

This is an outstanding opportunity for my kiddo and I to hang together. What a nice outlet for her artistic talents, sounds thoroughly organized. Thank you Brandi and Volunteers.

Thank you, Brandi!  The 3rd Annual Gyotaku Extravaganza is going to be great!   :smt001

I didn't advertise the $100 prize while selling pre-order shirts, and I figure there'll be people who decide they want to compete for the prize but didn't pre-order, so I'll have a few dozen extra printed Gimme Shelter Gyotaku shirts available for $20/each - this gets you in the competition for the $100 prize and of course you get to keep the shirt you print.  They'll be printed on both sides with GS logo on the front (small chest pocket logo) and Gyotaku design on back (centered at the neck).  If a significant number of the non pre-order shirts sell we'll have more prize money, so get in on the action!

The GS8 roster was very generous with kids' Gyo shirts bought through pre-order registration and to be available for kids at the event.  Between those shirts bought and donated, additional shirts that GS is buying for kids, and an existing inventory of shirts, we are aiming to guarantee a shirt for every kid who wants to print a shirt - don't forget about the mandatory adult chaperone for all kids who wish to print Gyotaku.  There will be prizes for the kids' category as well.

Please remember that the Gyotaku Extravaganza takes place due to the dedication and generosity of Brandi and the volunteers - make sure that you don't do anything to hinder the process.  Please respect and follow all rules and direction of Brandi and her staff.  And have fun!!   :smt001

To be guaranteed a size you had to pre-order, James, but hopefully we have a 2X from last year.  I got some extra XL's and smalls this year.

Pain in the neck Question here Brandi. The GS8 shirts are so outstanding makes me wonder what the UNclaimed look like. The back design makes the pictured shirt for me. Is last years much like it? Pictures?
thank you, Amos

Amos, NOT a pain in the neck question - very good question! GS7 shirts are white with pink ink on front only. Here are photos, one with GS7 logo and the other a sample of with a fish print (if you choose to print on the front)
Thanks for the question!
