I earn up to $450 a year in Cabela Bucks for using their credit card.  Add in a 20% discount every now and then when they send me a coupon and that's a FREE gun every year!  But since they aren't in CA, no can do.

More info at the new Sportsmen location, the other half of the store is going to be a Smart & Final.

I hope they have a decent array of archery supplies.

They don't. At least not in the half a dozen stores I've been to around the country. You're certainly not going to see Bowtech, Hoyt or Matthews.

But that's OK by me. It gives Wilderness Archery their niche. And what Wilderness can't provide (like low prices on good used bows) I can get on ArcheryTalk.com.

Which reminds me, time to get some vane cement....

I went this morning, and was unimpressed by the "sales" everything in fishing seemed marked up and then put "on sale".

BPS isn't really all that exciting anyways. Seems more like a clothing store to me... I've rarely had a knowledgeable staff member help me at BPS, compared to all the help that Fishermans Warehouse has given me over the years.  And now there will be a new BPS right next to my dads house in SJ.  I may drop in for a deal on some bulk type item, but I will always try and give my local shops my business first on purchases that matter.

Even with the Bass Pro shop next door, my favorite tackle shops are still Broadway (if Jimmy is working), and FW. FW is about the same price as BPS, but they always have exactly what I want.  Broadway has Jimmy, who is by far the most helpful bait slinger in the greater sac area.

I made the 'Go Thursday after the hype' mistake too.  Hundreds people in the store, most I bet do not own a sleeping bag.  What sent me walking to the exit were the prices.  On my list was to restock Senkos after a summer of fishing-- BPS sells them for $8.99.  Huh, come again?  Put list away, fugetaboutit.  But it was good to see/touch the merchandise before heading home for some internet ordering.

But will YOU be wearing a bikini, Amos?  I might drive to your store for that!

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
