Am I the only person who is never impressed by BPS?  With the exception of the fish tank its all overpriced cr*p in there.

Nope, i'm in the same boat!  If i'm looking for something cheap, I might end up there for it.  But at the BPS in Manteca it seems more like a clothing store than a tackle shop to me  :smt044  And though I should be happy about one being built in SJ so I dont 'have' to go to Manteca... i'm not because of where they are putting it, in a area that I grew up in and my father still lives.  I would much rather go to my local Fishermans Warehouse, Mel Cottons, or Coyote Bait for the south bay.

Couldn't agree more with you both.

For me the BPS is not just about buy the cheapest fishing gear.  I want it for a few reasons:

- Archery gear/supplies:  We have limited options around these parts and the limited options know it so there is no incentive to provide faster, better, or cheaper service.
- I need XYZ now!  It is another store I can call and see if they have it in stock.
- Marine Work:  I like Gone Fishin in Dixon but they take FOREVER!  I once had my boat in their shop for over 3 months for a tune-up  :smt013  Once again, competition helps the consumer!
- It is so far the ONLY outdoor shop my wife and kids want to go to with me.

Just my $0.02!

Never tried them for marine work.  I would guess that their shop rates are in the higher range?

More info at the new Sportsmen location, the other half of the store is going to be a Smart & Final.  Plus they are building a Chick-fil-a in the parking lot against Sunrise.  I for one tried that place and didn't care for it, but I know a lot of people that do.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

I've seriously eaten close to 300 chicken nuggets since Chick-fil-a came back to SR a few months ago.  :smt006

BPS is good to have around even for those of us who shop mostly online. It'll be like a showroom for Amazon and such.  :smt003

Whenever I pass through Manteca I stop at BPS and spend at least an hour.  I might buy some pork rinds or something when I'm there, I'll buy whatever raffle tickets or cookies/candy/etc. people out front are selling, and then I'll get on my iphone, open the amazon app, and always find what I want for less, and with two day shipping it might beat me home.

You're better than me. I could spend 2-3 hours there and not buy anything!  :smt044

I hope they have a decent array of archery supplies.

Isnt it better if they dont ever build a cabelas in California. Then we would have to pay sales tax on all we buy from them. It would pretty much just raise all their prices 8.5 percent or so.

Yeah but Cabelas selection is best in so many ways hands down.

But if they put one in Sacramento it would definitely put some companies outa business.
