Has anybody used the Black Dog Lunker Punker? How effective of a bait is it? I have been looking at adding one to my collection but I have a hard time shelling out the $20-$30 for one especially if it is just going to be a $20 lure that doesn't catch fish.

I'd suggest the wood in 6 or 8", that one is my favorite.  I have tried the plastic/injected ones and they don't seem to have the same walking action.  Also, avoid the 5", it doesn't walk as nicely as the 6" or bigger ones.  I have caught some nice largemouth and stripers on these.  But then again, I have caught some nice largie & stripers with with a $5 spook too.   :smt044

They are a bit pricey, but they make some nice lures.  That shell cracker is also another deadly one if you like throwing wakebaits.

I love them and have several.  Beware of the weight of these lures.  You might need a heavier rod before you dump money on lures!  Look up Matt Allen's video on using them at Clear Lake.  It's an awesome clip!  If you're ever around Petaluma and want to try a couple different "big" baits before buying just give me a shout.  Big swimbaits are an addiction of mine and I have just about all the major varieties from Bull Shads to Triple Trouts to Punkers, and even a couple Deps 250 Slide Swimmers if you really want to see some big stuff!

They are good, I've used them in the past. The price isn't that bad really.

Wanna fork out a buck for some serious top water?
Check out Delta Wood Bombers. Give Carlos wood a shot!

I paid the $30 plus dollars and have thrown it twice with no luck. First time was two years ago at salmon slam on berry with no blowups. Threw it again at Rancho Seco lat year with no blowups. Now this does not mean im going to give up. Will try my hardest to get to CL this year and maybe call up some hogs with it. Also looking to give it a go on the delta this year as well. Now would I go out and buy another one? Probably not as it has not proven to me that it can catch/outfish some other top water baits I throw.

I have one in White. I can "walk the dog" with it great, and it makes a ton of noise. I just can't catch shit on a top water plug. I know they work, but the top water gods haven't smiled down on me for whatever reason.

White is great color.  I had a lot of luck with stripers on the white one.  This past year the top water bite kinda sucked for me with the largies.  Did have some luck at o'neill forebay on topwater, but typically I will throw these at clearlake or delta.

Here's some killer Delta wood Bombers in 5" 1.5 oz. The Black ones best suited for stained water.

They do look nice!

Fished quite a bit of top water back in Florida (saltwater) for Spec. Trout, Redfish, Mack's & Tarpon.  Spooks, Mirrolures, etc...  I just came across a box of my Mirrolures a couple weekends ago.  Might have to break them out for O'Neill

They work awesome. But you need to use a heavier leader like 15-20 lbs to make them work properly. Some direct tie from braid which works also for some. Just not me. Another killer one is the rainbow color for lakes with Striper's like the ones in Livermore area.

They look nice, but a $4 lure will catch just as many fish.  Those expensive lures are to catch you, not fish.  I fished bass tournaments for years and never noticed that the real expensive lures caught any more fish than the cheap ones.  The only time I noticed any difference was in the characteristics of rip baits running a little more truer, that was it.  I would buy one just because I like the way they look, heck I bough one of the first hand painted Castaic big lures, I have yet to catch anything on it, but I never threw it as often as I did my smaller lures.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!
