They look nice, but a $4 lure will catch just as many fish.  Those expensive lures are to catch you, not fish.  I fished bass tournaments for years and never noticed that the real expensive lures caught any more fish than the cheap ones.  The only time I noticed any difference was in the characteristics of rip baits running a little more truer, that was it.  I would buy one just because I like the way they look, heck I bough one of the first hand painted Castaic big lures, I have yet to catch anything on it, but I never threw it as often as I did my smaller lures.

I do agree with this for the most part when it comes to bass lures.  Most are made to catch the fisherman, BUT...I have yet to see any other topwater lures that match the presentation offered by the lunker punkers or delta wood bombers.  They have a wide glide that just draws in the big fish sometimes.  I throw a lot of topwater and sure I have caught a lot of fish on all of them, including the cheaper $4 ones, but these wood topwater plugs consistently catch bigger fish, for me at least.  Might be just coincidence, but sometimes the way a lure moves compared to another one might be the difference it takes to entice the bite from a biggun.

The Delta wood bomber is made for big fish including salt water. Albacore Tuna, Yellowtail, Snapper. Dorado, Peacock Bass and other hard fighting game fish. Crazy top water action. The Delta Wood Bomber is handmade from Alaskan Yellow Cedar and equipped with 4X VMC spark point hooks and #3 Super triple wrap Split Ring by Wolverine Tackle. This bait is built to last and hold up to the big ones with a #304 Stainless steel wire thru the entire body. Wood has a better presentation along with the shape produces big circles or big splash if ripped. Plastic are mostly heavy and sink before any action is produced.

It's not the $30 price tag that makes the Lunker Punker a good bait.  Nor is it about catching tons of fish.  When you enter the Swimbait world of fishing its all about catching bigger fish!

Besides, $30 is cheap for a big swimbait!  The Deps 250 Slide Swimmers retail for $169 but unless you happen to be in a store when a shipment arrives you'll be scouring the classifieds on forums to get one.  They regularly sell for $200 a piece or more on the "Black Market"!

So with all this Lunker Punker talk I had to go down and buy one lol
The wife wanted to see a movie and have dinner so I figured bass pro was right there so why not pick one up. Ended up getting a 5" in the okishad color I was really debating on the shad or the okishad the wife said the okishad "looked pretty" so I got that one

Personally I like dark color for the Delta but most important is two things, presentation or able to walk the dog so the lure stays on top and creates a wake in a Z pattern. The other is using a stiff tip rod so every crank creates the pattern on top of the water and the line stays tight with every flick of the wrist. Using a heavier line like 17-20 lb makes it work better no matter what top water lure you use. I'm no expert but these work for me. Lastly, use a wood lure as they float and not sink.

All this talk about what's best.  The best lure is the one you have confidence in.  Different for everybody.

But with a new lure having someone say "that color is the best" can give you the confidence needed to throw that bait
