Last year was kinda dismal for me, not catching any of the big species that I had hoped for. But in 2012 I pretty much caught every single goal, except a 35+ Lingcod (and maybe a 18" perch lol!).  This year I hope to catch that big old Ling... and release it back into the ocean unharmed after a couple pics.  :smt004  I'm going to jump in on a hot salmon bite if I hear of one like last year in Bodega, no matter what it takes to get there.  And if there are any WSB in our waters, I will be there to hunt them down.

So what are your goals this year?

I plan on dedicating more time to trolling for Salmon.  I also still want to get a Thresher.  If WSB make an appearance I would like to be there to great them.  Finally, I have my fingers crossed for a Yellowtail bite at San Clemente this June.  Currently studying up on them.

I will need to reinvent the wheel on Berryessa and find the crappie at much lower water levels. Just like a new lake again.

Lots of unknowns for inland freshwater fishing this year. Of course, the low waters may result in real bonanzas if the fish are found.

My goal every year is the same, to catch a halibut! In all the years I've been fishing this bay I have never caught a halibut! This is the year  :smt003

To be a disciplined angler. In the past, I've switched to my "old faithful" methods of catching fish and not stuck to the new technique I was trying to learn. When I was learning to crawl jigs for bass in the winter, I had to only take that one and only set up with me out on the water with me. Otherwise I'd lose confidence and switch tactics- but that's not how you learn. So this year, I need to stick to my plans, learn Swimbait fishing better, and work on detecting bites on the fall. I also need to dedicate trips to crappie. When the crappie haven't cooperated in the past, I've gone to bass fishing- not a good way to catch crappie. And a 30"+ striper would be nice.

For 2014, I want to catch my first Salmon from my kayak and I want to do it at Shelter Cove.

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.
