I wanted to let you all in on something we have in the works for April 26th, the Saturday of the Berryessa event.

We will be hosting a kayak fishing festival at Lupine Shores / Steel Canyon.

This event will feature vendor booths from many of the top manufacturers as well as local stores.  We have tentative commitments from the likes of Hobie, Jackson, Ocean Kayak, and Wilderness Systems.  They will have their kayak fishing fleets there for on the water demos.  We are currently actively working to get PFD and Paddle manufacturers on board as well as other kayak fishing manufacturers.

We also plan on having both on and off the water seminars.

We could use some feedback from you.  What vendors and shops would you like to see participating and what sorts of seminars would you like to see offered?

Stay tuned ... more details to come.  Will update this thread as new information comes in.

I might be able to put something together with Mike (wing shooter) as we are both Lowrance Pro-Staff if you'd like a presence for the fish finder/GPS community.  I can also talk about the latest in Motorguide as well.  Hopefully I'll have my new Xi5 wireless model by then.

Absolutely Bill, let's take this discussion offline and discuss some of the details.

:smt004 I would like to see either Liquid Logic Co. or GoPro or both Vendors  show us Anglers how there products go well with our sport. They could even have a seminar themselves on rigging, etc. Just a thought. Either way, I'm sooo stoked to see this all come together.

I love the idea! As a fairly new angler I would like to learn more about the basics....how to choose the right tackle, fish behavior, etc.
Vendor wise It sounds like you have some great ones coming! How about Shasta Tackle or another local business?

that would be nice but you may be interested in attending next year ISE, they do classes all 4 days in different kind of fishing.
also look for the seminars put during the year by Dan at Headwaters or the team at CCK in Sacramento, all those classes are worth the time invested in attending.
also places like Fisherman's warehouse do classes all the time.

Absolutely....I attend as many of those as I can, although ISE is tough because they charge admission and parking.
It makes sense that the classes and such at Berry be more taylored for a more experienced crowd. I would attend no matter what! :-)

Great idea, Allen! How about an Alan Tani reel seminar, although outdoors might not be a good venue. If this event is for the public as well as NCKA (like Paddlefest), I agree with Cherie--the basics of both fishing and especially kayaking are important lessons.

Let me know how I can help (will have Little E in tow, too).

While we certainly would not discourage public participation, the realities of the situation are that it will largely be attended by NCKA'ers already there for the BSS.  As such, we'd prioritize subject matter for that.

maybe  food for thought for a later time and date but ever consider doing  say  a "NEWB FEST" for the beginning kayaker....anyhow something to put on the back burner , thanks Vic

There really is no reason this event wouldn't be appropriate for newbies.  And certainly there will be some "basics" seminars, because even in our population we have many beginners.  Thanks for the thoughts.  It's helping me think though this better ...

How to rig the track itself?  Or how to use the track for rigging?  I guess both, huh?  Any more specifics?  Thanks.
