Since it looks like all the places which sell Hobie are at the same price, I would prefer to purchase from a local small business vendor. I live in Modesto so driving within a 100 miles would be no problem. I would need to top load the unit using these carrier pads for my Z-71 Tahoe. http://www.rackattack.com/product-pages/prorack-kayak-carrier.asp I ordered a electric ATV 12 volt wench from Harbor freight w/wireless remote and should see it soon. This should help me load the Kayak once I fabricate the frame to support the wench and supports to my front bumper. It will be portable so I can remove it when done and store in my vehicle. I have plenty of time to look but set on a Hobie pro 12 as it seems to be better suited for my fishing plans. So looking for suggestions on where to purchase. One other item, since its inclined to use a Lowrance finder, I can see the new 5" screen for my choice. Any help on vendors for electronics would be appreciated. Thanks

Unless things have changed, you can get a fairly decent deal on Hobies.  I think that everyone must advertise MSRP though.

After a quick search, it looks like there are Hobie dealers in Sonora, Livermore, and Oakley.  I can't speak for the other two, but Sunrise Mountain Sports in Livermore is a good store.

The Sonora store has nothing. 1 hobie sport on the floor no parts or accs.

It's my understanding that if you're buying a brand new current year hull you won't get a deal on a Hobie.  The only deals are on demo hulls, non-current year models, and accessories/add ons.  The prices are the same here in Cali at dealers as they were in Florida when I moved here last summer.

I will say that I think you'll get tired of car topping very quickly with the weight of the hull.  I used to own a truck and hauled my PA14 in the bed with no complaints.  These days I'm in a SUV and after car topping on my Trailblazer just a couple times I found myself in the market for a trailer.  I picked up a jetski trailer that has been modified by the original owner to carry his ski and camping gear to the lake.  I couldn't be happier now as hauling, loading, and unloading is a breeze!!

I would be careful using a 12 volt winch to pull a PA onto the roof of a vehicle, the winch may have enough power to damage whatever you are hooked to on the PA.  Might be a good idea to connect the winch to more than one place on the PA to spread the load.  Livermore is probably going to be the closest place for you to buy a Hobie, I bought a PA 14 from them a few years ago, great service.

Thanks for the assistance. I'll be out soon looking for the deal. Who knows might even find a great used one at dealer.

+ 1 on Sunrise. Great store and service. They have a fall sale where they discount all of their yaks. I am picking up my Eddyline from them today and will ask them about the PA12.

Sunrise is a great shop. Top notch customer service. I bent a mirage drive fin shaft and was having trouble removing it, they guy took his own time to do it for me- for free.

Looks like Windtoys (in Santa Rosa) is having a big sale: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/bod/4293520995.html
And now they have a shop in Sausalito too?

Thanks Pat. I'll give them a call on the Pro 12. Anyone know if this price they are asking is reasonable? Thanks

Ye I found one and if it all checks out, I'll be a proud owner of a Pro -12. Here is how its equipped.

Hobie Pro Angler 12
Hobie Paddle
Hobie anchor trolly
Gear tracs 2
4 gear heads
2 scotty rod holders
2 scotty lake troll down riggers
Lorance Elite 4, lake map and GPS with ram mount
Hobie H-bar
Hobie heavy duty plug in cart
Its a 2012 model in Olive.
I think its a good deal. Now to get it home from Sacramento.
