Ron Swanson vs. Dwight Schrute.

They may be fictional characters, but that doesn’t make the decision any less important. Which one would you rather spend the day kayak fishing with, Ron Swanson or Dwight Schrute? The first is a moustached, Parks Deparment Director; the second is a paper salesman and beet farmer. Both are prepared to survive any situation, from ex-wives to Scranton Stranglers. But how do they stack up as fisherman?

Ron Swanson

Swanson is the type of man’s man who builds his own canoe AND paddle before he goes out fishing. He would catch a fish before you even put a line in the water and then question your masculinity. He would critique your improper casting skills, but it would make you a better fisherman. You could even pick up moustache growing advice at the same time.

Swanson would also pack plenty of food for the both of you - all of it red meat. Since Swanson doesn’t eat fish, “For sport only, fish meat is practically a vegetable" you'd get to keep the catch.

Dwight Schrute

Schrute is known for his knowledge in martial arts, beet farming, Battlestar Galactica and bears. He has a rather large collection of knives, swords and other interesting weapons "strategically placed" throughout the office at Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. He can build a fire and feed himself in the woods without breaking a sweat. He probably learned how to fish while still in diapers while listening to German nursery rhymes.

If you brought Schrute along and he liked you, he would tie your knots for you, help you land that trophy and take the blame if you lost a fish. Unless, of course, you're like Jim, in which case, he would throw your rod in the water, dump out your fishing lures and punch a hole in your kayak to teach you disaster preparedness.

Tough choice.  Both are well versed in the outdoors.  I'd probably choose to fish with Dwight.  He seems to know all sorts of obscure stuff about animals (and probably fish too) that I bet even Ron would miss.  And I think Dwight would be more open to trying new techniques than the set-in-his-ways Ron.  Plus, I'm not too big on eating red meat.  Dwight could simply find a nest of bird eggs in a tree and cook up a shore lunch on the spot  :smt003.

You know it's winter when threads like these show up  :smt044.

Ron, because as a master woodworker he could turn out gaffs, paddles, and handline spools.

Dang, are we bored or what?
I thought you were going to ask about a real person. Already had Joe Staley of the 49ers in mind. Saw him learning to Bass fish at Clear Lake on a local TV fishing show. Would love to show any country boy 49er how to kayak fish on the big blue. Would make a good fishing  show or a charity fundraiser - "Kayak Fishin with the 49ers"  Sorry, no Raiders, FM1 Andy. They don't know how to handle tackles or how to catch. If you tried to coach them along, they'd fire you.  :smt002

In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.
