whatsup guys! i posted on the board about half a year ago about which yak to get and i finally got one during the black friday sale! my buddy and i both got t-15's! i've been out crabbing a few times since i've done well thanks to the community! i just wanted to say thanks and gonna keep posting instead of lurking!

I also have a question about custom stabilizers, ive seen the posts about the ram 1.5 mount with some sort of strut to help from the plastic flexing, but i was wondering if anybody has tried the ram ball mounts that fit into the flush mount rod holders, instead of mounting it with screws. Do you guys think that this can handle the flexing? or do you guys think its a bad idea.  any input would be helpful. thanks again!

It's tricky for any ball system stabilizers/outriggers for you have to make, I don’t know many, adjustments for the system to be placed correctly so that once you’re on the kayak everything works and tracks straight.

So to clarify your thoughts, you want to use the flush mounts as a base for the ram tube and then attach some kind of crossbar to them and then attach some floatation devices on each end? Is that right? Trying to put a visual together here.,

BTW, congrats on your purchase of the Tridents. I love all of mine. I owned them before I was sponsored. I firmly believe in the product. Its an awesome platform and it paddles well on the big blue.

thanks guys

@ ravenblack...i want to use the ramball mount that fits inside the flushmount. to clarify my question is, is the flushmount rod holder studry enough for the ball mount system so that i would not need the cross bar for flexing.

I've seen many of the flush-mounted rod holders break or pop off due to a surf wipeout w/rods in the holders. So I wouldn't say they are very strong...but they might work for stabilizers...just don't wipeout!

Congrats on the new yak.
Aside from taking a chance of ripping a huge hole in your yak. It doesn't take much to flex the flush mounts breaking the seal causing a leak, not that big of a deal as long as it's not snotty and you keep it right side up. Just my .02

Thanks. I wouldn't use the flush mounts for anything but storing a rod or light trolling. I wouldn't use them for salmon trolling with a heavy weight. You definitely wouldn't want to compromise one of those on the ocean  in any kind of conditions. If I were to try a system like you want I would look to mounting two brackets to the two flat areas you will see on the deck about in the middle of the rear tankwell.  Scotty makes a system like you want. Ill look to see what they have and try to post the link. I think Sonny had some of those he bought from Juan.

What is the goal of adding the stabilizers?  I mean obviously they are for added stability,  right?  When and why do you feel that you need them?  Is the yak feeling tippy or are you looking for added stability to stand and fish?  Congrats on the great yak.

I checked out the scotty's and wanted to make my own version.
The reason why I wanted the stabilizers is for future trolling and stability. Eventually i might want to mount a trolling motor for salmon fishing. I also tend to lean on one side while fighting fish. "Yanked the THang too hard" flipped over a couple times.  Overall for stability in general. thanks guys for the replies.
