From this weeks WON report in the Sac Bee - did someone say salmon........

SHELTER COVE — Charter boat, C’Mon, skippered by locally renowned captain Jared Morris, joined the local fleet and is ready for the season. Salmon were seen jumping, which always gets adrenaline to pumping. Jetty fishers were seen catching perch, greenling and cabezon.

I can't remember ever catching a salmon at Shelter Cove.  I don't think they exist.

Eric-

Back in the days of the old parking lot at black sands beach before it washed out, I went on a hike up the beach to buck creek, then up the ridge trail.  It was November break from college, probably 1991.  Our group pitched camp at buck creek, waited until dark then a bit longer for the waning but still large moon to rise over the ridge, then headed up the trail by moonlight.  It was crystal clear and quite cold.  Ad we made our way up the ridge trail, we had no idea the treat we were in for.  We could see the lights below from shelter cove, then a bit further down the coast to Fort Bragg.  As we got higher we saw even more lights all the way down the coast, and an intense light out over the water.  It took a few minutes to realize that we were seeing the lights of the SF bay area refracting off of the water, intensely bright on the horizon.  It was a special night in a special place.

Getting jazzed for the cove!

Awesomeness, Doug.  I love being able to see a long way out of the wilderness while being deep inside of it.   :smt001

I hiked down Buck Creek Trail from the ridge once way back in the late 80's - that was all I wanted of that!  Just coming down that 3000 of steepness had the tops of my quads just ripping by the time we hit the beach (with 90 pound packs!   :smt005).  That was the only time I've ever seen a mountain lion - it was a dry carcass.  The place is way wild.

Nice Rob. Not even the temptation of a WS 14 will distract me from the chrome hunt.

Last year, I did not feed my son before we went on the water, and did not give him any scopase.  :smt011 He did not last long enough to get a single bite. I stayed out long enough to get a keeper ling @ 22 3/64" so that he could have a ling fillet to grill up. This year is going to be different, I can hardly wait.

Application and money order sent for Cody and I 2/6/14. See you in a few months!
