I've had litters of Blacks and Blonds. I think you've meet most of these since we go back a little. Here's my trusty Bella and Daisy making sure my toe jams don't escape. Notice that I have had litters of both Blacks and Blonds for the reasons mentioned. Browns to me have a lot shorter attention span.
These dogs will get up when I do unless told not to. They aren't couch loungers,  not to say they don't sneak kisses from us well sitting on the couch. Labs are very loyal and very attentive. Put them in the field and they seem to have a natural ability to flush and pause.Need to be trained not to lead and they'll stay be your side all their lives.
Was 21 yrs old when I got my first Lab 62 now so I am just a little partial to them. Oh have trained my Daughters Lab to be very protective. You remember Jake? Black bruiser and very intimidating.
Does Bella still have both ears?!
Love the pic!!!
Thanks, Ben!

OVERALL, good dog. Not pet material, this is a hunting dog. I think he is too rough for small kids, and too much for older people. He is going to need lots of work, in obedience and in the field. I dont use E-collars, I have one, but only use it as lastvresort. I think he may need one to drill in the obedience-even though he is 2, he has ZERO attention span. Unless someone is willing to put in 20+ hours a week into training, this dog will drive you to drink. After that, he will be a rockstar nextbyear, just gonna have to keep him up on training and birds as ofter as you can.

So, if you are wanting a project, this is it. Cody being old enough now, would   do him well to tackle this one with me, so I am on the fence. If you are serious about him for hunting, we can talk. The pet part will come with more age and obedience.

Yeah that dog needs a purpose.

And that purpose is hunting! Good thing you are doing Rich. Too many animals are just "rescued" from one hell to another. Sounds like this dog needs a HUNTER.

Sorry about your loss also.

Yep, thanks man.
I wish people did put as much into finding out what they have/want in animals BEFORE they act on the impulse to go get one. See the same thing with horses.

Ive got a hunting dog spot in the back yard open for another lab and im not afraid to work with him all the time. If no ones serious about taking him i will more than gladly take him so he dosent go to a shelter and never get worked. Thats what these dogs were bred to do and thats what they need to do cause they want to work!

Thats awesome he wants to work just have to get it through his thick skull that if he minds he gets to work. I love dog races over ducks just goes to show they feel the rush like we do reeling in fish!

I am going to finish the hunting season out with him, to maximize the time in the field and exposure. I have this weekend, then the JR weekend, and extended goose season which I will be hunting every day of, then see where he is at.

Rest in Peace Hunter, He wasn’t the best hunting dog but he got the job done and never complained. What he did excel at was being a little boys best Pal in his later years and letting me know when the fire needed stoked. We will see you later buddy Love You

Sorry to hear about your pup. Labs are the best, which makes saying goodbye even harder.  Our black lab passed a few years ago, and we still talk about him almost daily. Such a good dog. Hope you and the family are taking it well.

It was bitter sweet cause he was getting older and his health was going down hill. We miss him dearly but he’s not in pain anymore so there is something to be positive about.
