Going to purchase a new net my Promar has seen better days. Anything new and exciting out there that I need to hear about? Going also with a new fresh water net (trout, salmon, bass) any new products here?

Frank, a group of us got some telescopic floating nets back in 2011 that I have been happy with. I will get a bigger net for special trips/occasions. Here is the thread by Sonny "My Next Kayak Net":

Frank - It has bad reviews. I ended up passing on it and getting one at Walmart with a rubber mesh for $30.   Its been working great.  Make sure to check if the mesh is tangle free.  I throw a Rapala and shake it in there.  If it tangles get something else.

I had a Promar collabsible.  It died within the year.

Unless they've done some re-engineering, I'd stay awayfrom it.  I took care, rinsed after every go out etc.  it just rusted to shit.

The ego is a sweet product with all the interchangeable parts. Both salt and fresh it needs a closer look. Thanks

I have owned a couple of Promar collapsible nets and they work fine for small fish. You need to spray the locking mechanism with corrosion x periodically to keep it from freezing. 10-15# is the max it can lift at full extension without bending the handle so for salmon and big Hali's you will need a REAL net. They are great though to stow in hull to keep you legal.

My promar would snag hooks so bad I had to start cutting the net to get trebles out. I bought a frabill rubber net at walmart yesterday for 30. Seems solid but it's a bit heavy.

Ego slider, short handle , large hoop, deep black plastic net.  Netted four salmon over seventeen lbs. with it this summer.  Had two pro mars, hated the fabric net,  the rubberized one is better, but can't hold a candle to the Ego slider.  Did have my first Ego sink while I was fighting a salmon in the Sac. after jumping out of kayak, called company and they immediately sent a replacement.  I added some extra flotation to the new one.

+1

Mine broke on the first salmon that I tried to net.  I e-mailed promar, but got no response.

I recommend the EGO net.

Ego nets are heavier so harder to scoop salmon quickly. Some top out at 20# also. I have a nice one and never use it.
