[SITE] Signatures

Hi all,

I was fiddling around with limitations on signature, specifically image size, and may have made a change that affected some of your signatures adversely.  What I didn't realize is that the program will change your actual signature code by inserting width and height tags into your image in your signature.  For instance, see the following.

This sets the image width to 108 and height to 100.  What I did was try a smaller setting and it may have changed the size to a smaller image for some of you (I escaped out once I realized what was happening), and it may have done it dis-propportionately for some signatures that were already processed

If your signature was affected, you can go back into your signature and remove the width and height to make it look like the following:

I did set the limits to width of 200 and height of 100, so if your image is bigger than this, when you save your signature again it will automatically insert the width and image attributes to scale your images proportionally while keeping the maximum in mind.

This change is being made to keep signatures from adversely "dominating" the screen.

We are considering some other signature limitations, but that is still under discussion.  However, since I messed this up already, I needed to let you all know ASAP.  Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Hah.  I actually effed up BigJim's.  I was using his as a test case.  So I went in and fixed it for him already!

thanks polepole, big jims signature was really looking like BWE forum team sewer and lollipop gang signatures, was waiting for the video ad to show up in the upper right corner, 

I am hoping that BigJim doesn't come back to me and ask me to do more of his signatures.... its like sooooo many!

Not to be a meany but I just saw some sigs with YouTube videos and its pretty annoying and cluttering. Just my opinion.

I added my articles to my signature because they were unstickied last year and are hard to find even with the slightly improved search engine which is still kind of a joke.  I have received PMs from newbs thanking for the articles. I however am in favor however of limiting the sigs and also including a mandatory disclosure when you are receiving financial benefit from a company or vendor. Saying you are a team member like "team Hobie" is vague and not explicit. I am only run my articles in my sig for another week or 2.

Hmmm ... I updated the video display package last night and apparently it affect signatures.  There is no way for me to automatically check for videos.  But yeah, it's annoying.  We'll just have to ask that video not be included in signatures.

I did find a way to be able to display the text, but not convert to the video.  However, it is not automated.  By using the

[nobbc][/nobbc] tags around a video URL, it will not get converted to a video display (or a URL link).  It will just display as plain text.  I did that on racinrob's signature as a test and it worked there.

What improved search engine?  I had to disable that because it was breaking tapatalk.  Have I told you guys how much I hate tapatalk?

FYI, your signature is one that we've received complaints about taking up too much space.  That being said, we don't have guidelines for signatures, so it is what it is.

+1 on tapatalk, ditched it long ago because if ut.

I have enjoyed the easy access to GB2's articles, but find large signatures annoying, particularly when browsing on a small screened device such as an iPod. Some sigs can take up more than half the screen!
