Does anyone have an idea on how to make the straps on the mirage drive pedals larger?  When I'm wearing waders the boots are very fat and I can't get the straps around them.  I don't believe Hobie makes a larger strap.  Any suggestion?

Most  people take them off.

But I suppose you could cut them in the middle and add a few shoe strings or something similar.

My suggestion is to remove the over the shoe strap and replace it with heel straps like this:

I like your idea and I'm going to try it.

Why heel straps??
The idea of the foot strap is so you can lift the retracting pedal while you push the other talking pressure off of the drive.
Does the heel strap do that too?

When the shoe straps are too tight to fit the shoes in, heel strap is a good alternative. I for one never lift the retracting pedal. It is more comfortable to some people as it could serve as foot rest.

Take the straps off and toss em, then silicone 1 oz. weights on the back bottom part of each pedal that way the pedal will hang so you won't need any straps.

Like this. But I drilled through the pedal and used a screw, lock washer and nut.

First thing I do with the mirage drive is take off the straps.  Doesn't really help to have them there, more in the way if anything.

I took them off too.

But, I just recently read on some other Hobie forum where a guy claimed he liked the straps when fighting a big fish. The thought was that it helped with balance, by keeping him more connected to the boat. That seems like it might actually make some sense.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

I think they are useless.
