Man, I was IN the water on the other side of the peninsula surrounded by bloody fish. Spooky... glad to hear from you...

I suggest reporting something to the people sharkattackfile.info . It's a group of attack survivors and those left behind who are interested in collecting data any shark/human encounter regardless of contact or injury.

Did u have to throw out your undies? LOL kidding aside, I'm glad you are okay. It really takes a moment like this to make you enjoy what you do even more. To realize that life is given but can be taken at any moment whenever its your time.

Holyshit Craig!!!
Dude that's crazy. Glad to are doing good. Can't wait to hear about it first hand. That spot is very popular--there's a reef right there. So it probably hits home for a lot of people. Thanks for sharing the story!

Glad you are OK. That is the closest encounter to MBK that I know of. Did you let the MBK folks know?

I went back there today and a fellow member 'Ron' happened to be launching so he kept me company whcih was very cool of him..thanks Ron!...I was determined to just paddle back radio playing and fish just like so many other days this season since I started the yak fishing...I was more inclined to try kelp fishing though and made myself go to the yellow can...Ron had dropped a line a hundred feet or more back so that worked out cool  for me to be able to solo paddle the last stretch to the exact spot where the Shark had shadowed me and surfaced...I was making noises out loud the last 20 feet ,as it was very intense to kind re-live the deal the very next morning....I sat there for a few and made a few calls to my Gal and a friend and then it was over and I was able to see that what was-is now not again...if that makes sense...I may never see a Great white again..and really that is just fine with me...I thnk I may have added a few feet to the shark in my terror/shock/excitement and the telling and re-telling so many times yesterday...I was able to sit in my Cobra the same few feet from the can alone on calm water and scale the distance from the can to me and from me to the Shark and from the tail to dorsal against how big my Cobra is...The shark may have been 15 feet and it may have been 12 feet...it all happened so fast...the biggest thing was the amount of water displaced as it jerked it's whole girth back and forth like a dog shaking a rodent...it really dwarfed my kayak and myself but 16 feet is pretty long...who knows...it was big and it scared me shitless and I was all alone...and it was sooo close to the civilized world that I was surprised just a tiny bit....
Thanks again to Ron for showing up and helping me to get the guts up to paddle out it was terrific day and although I only caught a rock fish at the cans and went to the kelp to finish my limit and day..it was very important for me...if I did not go today I may never have got out there again...that bad
thanks guys
long thread and story ...but hell it is a local GWS encounter by a new guy...so thanks for reading and all the kind remarks
Craig
p.s I'm going wednesday and all three day fri-sat-sun and thats it for this first season..if I live  :smt005

You're a better man than myself for getting back on the saddle so quickly Craig.  Don't know that I could have done it.

And man, carry on as long as you need.  It seems to be therapeutic for you and that is important.

All I can say is wow and holy shit!!!

I fished MBK Friday from 7 -430pm, caught some nice fish but no GWS!!!

I fished SW on Sunday and had a humpback whale decide to breach 30 yds in front of me!! I high tailed it out of its way!!   The ocean is another world and you have to always been on guard!!!

Stay Safe fellas

BTDT. A great experience to have (once you are safely on shore)...but one you never want to repeat.

WoW and what a go-pro moment that would have made.

yes I am currently researching go pro's...had a huge whale cruising out in front of me and fellow member Ron Sunday near the GWS spot...it was doing  the moby dick whole back out of the water as it motored along...I paddled to try and reach it out in the open bay but when it came up again it had turned and was running out to the red buoy direction..I think a Go Pro and fish finder set up are the two next big investments after I get my dive cert and gear in the next few months...speargun...it never ends $$$$ love this kayak thing...most intense thing in my life so far was the GWS...except the U.F.O's but they were not 5 feet away...at least the part I can remember,,,but thats a story for another thread....should start a "ever seen a u.f.o?" thread...but those who have are afraid to tell folks...and those who have not could never believe...kind of like the shark encounter...except they have sharks on t.v...of forget it...I saw what I saw... :smt010
