Definitely the most beautiful and memorable part of the trip. I was never really a Calico fishing fan but fishing deep (100 yds) in the kelp with live squid was unbelievable. Hooking hog after hog and having to figure out how to get them untangled from the kelp was challenging, stimulating and rewarding.

REMINDER: Be at the landing between 5 and 6 PM on Friday.  There will be time for last minute gear shopping and a quick dinner while the gear is loaded and the boat gets situated for launching.

And the news you all wanted to hear, the report from last weekend's mothership trip.  There were 1/2 dozen yellowtail caught in the 10-12 pound range.  And the jackpot winner was a 32# halibut caught in the lee side.  And a typical calico bite, meaning they were everywhere and lots of them.

Do we need to check in with OEX at all before that?

Yes.  They are called out as Kelp Bass in the regs.  Daily limit of 5 with a min size of 14".  Please remember the min size limit.  I think last year we had some that were less than the min accidentally kept.

Sheepshead have a daily limit of 5 with a min size of 12"
