As a seller, you'd want as much exposure as possible.

That's what craigslist is for!   :smt002

I hope you all don't think I'm getting cranky about the members only vs. open to the public.  It's no big deal to me.

I'm adding a poll here too.  We'll do what you want.

Makes sense, and I totally get the logic about wanting to keep good deals inside the family.

Is the goal to keep newbs from pushing their shop and/or money-making schemes? If so, what about: anyone can view, but 20 forum post minimum to list something for sale in the classifieds?

Or, if the goal is to just keep it all within a tighter-knit group then I'd say 10 posts is fine, but >20 posts is more of a deterrent. (it'd keep me out...:smt002)

Im on my phone so I can't vote on the poll, but I disagree with the notion that you need ten posts to see the classifieds here. I know there's plenty more viewpoints then where I'm looking at right now but I wanna share my viewpoint with you guys nonetheless.
A couple years ago I was lurking the pfic board and I ran into this thread that was talking about kayak fishing in the bay. I was really interested in catching halibuts in the bay and was stoked to find any information I could to improve my chances. I went to this ncka website and was really intrigued at what I saw.
In order to get into this group, obviously I needed a kayak. So I did plenty of research via Google and the forum to decide on what I needed to purchase. I was too fresh in the game to introduce myself but I was here and I was listening and learning while checking the classifieds religiously.
Eventually I told my brother in law of what I intend to get into. He was stoked as well on what I was intrigued about. He ended up buying a PA14 from windtoys and I was completely speechless. Now its come full circle for me, I HAD to get a kayak Asap! The madness was driving me crazy before I even ever got into the water with a kayak!
*ahem!!!* I've had a few to drink so I will try and make a long story short.
When I wanted a kayak I was looking on the classifieds 24/7 for the right deal that I can afford and liked. I didn't post a lot at all, but the fact that I was able to look kept me into it. I got my brother in law into it and he ended up buying one before I did. He needed someone close to him to share the madness with him so he helped me buy a hobie. I'm still around today, even though I don't have a kayak anymore. My brother in law is still around the forum today aswell, even though he don't have a Kayak anymore either.
The way I see it, when u limit one person seeking a new hobby, You can limit more than just THAT one person. You can limit him AND his extended referrals into this great family.
My brother in law is dune12 by the way, aka Mr. Classifieds hahaha

Guess I'm not understanding the logic behind 10 posts or more. Seems like the only thing that does is limit customers for members trying to sell their stuff.

If it's possible, I'd suggest anyone can view but only those with 25 or more posts can list something for sale. I chose 25 because that gives folks enough time to get the feeling of the membership and how we treat each others during these sorts of transactions but is still low enough for those who got into kayak fishing before they were ready and want to get out soon after.

Without prejudice of reading ANY of the other posts, my opinion is;
10 or more posts to utilize the classifieds and here's why;

I think first crack at anything for sale by the brothers and sisters on here should go to participating members.  If I'm selling something to you guys, I want to pass on a good deal.  If it's someone who's just searching google for, say, a salt water reel and they hit the link, how is that going to help my friends out?  I might as well just post on craigslist or eBay and then a link here in these classifieds on how to find the item I'm selling.

Hope that makes sense.  I'll list things here first and cheaper than I would to the general public on craigslist or eBay and I've bought things here I know were discounted for the reasons I've stated. (kayak cart, kayak sail, 2 reels...)

Now, back to read what everyone else posted....

Yup, makes perfect sense.  The majority of transactions here are bro deals, often times offering special prices to NCKA members before a listing goes up on Craigslist.

When excluding people, there really should be a good reason. Registered but no posts necessary would be my choice if it were available. Classifieds here have almost always operated on a first come basis, but there isn't really any reason to keep it that way. If your bro says he's interested then you should be able to sell it to him even if someone else expressed an interest first. If someone you don't know offers more money you should feel free to take it even if he or she hasn't posted on NCKA a day in their life. Just don't accept a money order for more than you were selling for and send the balance via western union to Nigeria!

Also, poll results should have the option to be public so we can all see who voted for what.
