When excluding people, there really should be a good reason.

Isn't a good reason because that's the way we want it (per the poll above)?

Registered but no posts necessary would be my choice if it were available.

Registered with no posts is essentially a guest.  Actually it has even less privileges.  When you are registered but have no posts, the only board you can see is the Introductions Board.  You  must make an introductory post there before being allowed to post elsewhere in the site.

Classifieds here have almost always operated on a first come basis, but there isn't really any reason to keep it that way. If your bro says he's interested then you should be able to sell it to him even if someone else expressed an interest first. If someone you don't know offers more money you should feel free to take it even if he or she hasn't posted on NCKA a day in their life. Just don't accept a money order for more than you were selling for and send the balance via western union to Nigeria!

We're not a classifieds site.  If someone wants that, go to Craigslist.  We could very well just do away with classifieds, but they serve a purpose in letting bros offer to other bros some good deals.

Also, poll results should have the option to be public so we can all see who voted for what.

That option is not available in the site software.  But what difference does it make?

I can't respond to multi quote on my phone and make it look right so I'm not quoting.

Yes, how the vote goes is a great reason. It would be better if we know why the vote went the way it did. That's where public poll options are helpful. Obviously some polls are sensitive in nature and should be private if you want people to participate, but that is the exception and not the rule.

Classifieds are a pretty nice feature to have on a board dedicated to an expensive hobby where many items hold resale value well and there is a wide range of quality and construction material and styles available. Of course, as tptb you have the discretion as to what you do and don't provide and maybe sponsors don't care for classified sections since it could conceivably cut into as value and expected revenue, I don't know. I do know it is a great service to the membership and I'd hate to see it go anywhere.

I didn't know about the registered/no post limitation on forum visibility. Not that it matters, I think an introduction is pretty nice and not much to ask.

I'm going to guess that 99% of classified transactions are between registered members, so I have no qualms about it not being open to the public.  What I don't have a feel for is how many members with <10 posts are involved in transactions.  As others have said, I think a better solution would be having different permissions for posting vs. viewing only, but I don't know how to do that at this moment.

I think I've figured out how to do this.  Sit tight for a few days while I fiddle around with it ...

Who needed a few days?   :smt002

OK, the classifieds is now viewable to ALL (including guests).  However, you can't post a new topic in it unless you have 10 posts or more.
