I think Central Coast Kayaks is in Pismo, they do caves and coast tours. Call 'em & they could probably add a couple of launches. But Avila has always been a good choice. There are fish in there too.

I had a great time last year catching monster perch at Avila.  Bloodworms killed it!

Was that shore fishing ? This time of year ? Getting out stretching my legs wouldn't be a bad idea. :smt001

From the pier, last October... just cast into the waves/churned water and HAVE FUN!!!  It would've been an easy launch with a yak but I was on a date.

There are quite a few launches within a hour of SLO. Cayucos and Morro Bay to the East, and Avila beach, and Shell beach to the South.

There is a huge kelp bed that stretches from Cayucos Northwards. You can launch at Cayucos pier or the windmill to the North.

A few miles South of Cayucos is Morro Bay, which has a boat ramp inside the bay so it is completely protected.

If you want to fish SLO Bay, you have a couple options. You can launch at Avila beach, or at the boat ramp to the West towards Port San Luis. The kelp beds are at the Eastern end of the beach.

Further to the East, and closest to Pisco beach, you can launch at Shell beach. This is where the tours for the dinosaur caves launch.

Ok, so to keep the wifey happy. I am booked on a party boat out of avila beach while she attends her meeting in Santa Maria. Its the least I could do for her. I mean as far as staying out all day on the yak and not possibly spending any ( quality time ) with her. She has even elected to drive almost an extra 45 minutes so I could be closer to my points of interest! (san luis Obispo vs staying in santa maria ) :smt044. She is so lucky to have me. Hope she doesn't see this post. :smt003.

So at least I will get to scout the area out for any future yak excursions. Looking forward to it. Hope ta have some good pics. Alex

Another benefit to the party boat is you don't have to worry about where you keep your yak at night. But personally if you were to bring the yak and really wanted to catch fish. MDO would be the best. Avila sucks most of the time. Shell Beach is better, to fish launch behind central coast kayaks is located. If you were to bring your yak Post in hook up section of centralcoastkayakfishing.com . There is always someone going out everyday of the week.

The patriot is a good outfit been out with them several times. In my exp with them they all ways face west and drift south. So if you don't want your line under or on the other side of the boat you may want to claim your place on the starboard side.
Last time out they were very adamant about yours rods being rigged before you board there boat. Infact people were getting pulled out of line if their rods were not rigged just a heads up.
