Shelter Cove - Salmon Trolling - Friday the 8th is a go. Launch by 10AM.

While out rock and ling fishing at the Cape the other day I realized I'd rather be salmon trolling - whether I catch one or not.  Ocean salmon season is open through Sunday, November 10th at the Cove, so I'm heading that way soon.  I'll do 10 to 12 miles if necessary, trolling chovies behind a dodger and DeepSix.  The salmon in the ocean right now are next year's spawners as well as Winter Run fish.  There's a chance at a huge fish, but it's more likely to see a 10 to 12 pounder.  I've contacted a friend down that way a couple times in the past few weeks, and he hasn't seen or heard of anyone even trying lately, but the fish are there.

Can fall back on ab diving, crabbing starting this Saturday, and shore fishing as a last resort.  Just being at the Cove with the sun out, calm water, and a few friends around will be a great way to close out ocean hook and line fishing seasons in Humboldt.

If WX cooperates, let's do it. 

Definitely itching for a trip like you've described! Now. I gotta figure out how to make it happen.

I may have to shorten my trip by a day or 2 cause I wanted to get one more salmon before the season is over.  Last year I ended with a limit just off the kelp bed.

This Wednesday has opened up - thought I had obligations, but it's now open.  Forecast is awesome.  Who's in if it's day after tomorrow?
