Inside the Ultra's hatch, there is a white plug that appears to be removable. It seems to be threaded. But there is some sort of glue/epoxy around the surface of mine. I would like to temporarily remove this plug to access the hull. But I don't want to force/break it or ruin the threads.
Does anyone know about this plug? Is it removable?
Thanks!

Not my pics, but this is the plug I'm referring to.

That plug is used during molding, it is permanent ... Don't try to remove.
If you remove, it will be in the hatch, an still has the hatch to seal, but probably not what you want.

When I used a hole saw to drill the hole for the rod tube,   that thing you speak of had an iceicle hanging below it.  I drilled through that too make room for the rod tube.  I don't use or like the rod tube BTW,  too small.

An iceicle?  :smt102  :smt005
I intend to use that area for a control panel to manage a livewell timer, lighting, etc. So I might end up cutting a big square around that plug thingy & remove it altogether.

RE: the rod tube. I have heard the same complaint from a few different people, so I will not install the tube. But I am definitely going to install a small deck plate/hatch in there...to have access to the hull -- and be able to easily store rods. It's tough to find a hatch that'll fit the area though (max outside diameter is 5").
This site has some good info & products though: http://www.topkayaker.net/Articles/Customize/KayakHatchDeckPlate.html

There is a plastic dong that hangs below the little white cap thing.

There is a plastic stalactite that hangs below the white cap thing.

It is just left over plastic from how they mold it I imagine.

I've been thinking about cutting out most of the "pod" and just having it more open, ala the Tridents.  Get the dremel out and start the video ...

Polepole, I so agree.  We need a guinea pig!   It is not like he had to pay for that yak.   What does he have to loose?

That's a common misconception ... I did pay for that yak.

LOL...you guys!  :smt005

Allen I think Eric's talking about me. But he's still wrong because I paid 35 bucks for that yak. Plus gas money to drive 8 miles, plus beer money, plus bait. So more like 50 bucks.  :smt003

But I am NOT cutting out the whole hatch liner! I like the ability to put all my tackle in there and keep the entire tankwell open for fish. Or my son.

I'm thinking about cutting away most of the sides, and leaving the bottom with a portion of the sides still dropping down to support it.  Maybe just the cut the sides from the back 1/2 off, so I have open access to the back part.  Or something like that ...

I was talking about Sin and the free boat.  Too funny.  Yes the $50 yak won with the drinking straw spreader set up.

One thing I notice on my boat and it may be common to all yaks in that going into a swell,  I feel the yak bend under me.   Is this common?  I can't imagine the 5" hole for the rod tube causes enough hull instability to cause it.  But will the removal of that bottom pan reduce hull stability? I would love to cut that sucker out but I want somebody else to do it first (hint hint Sin)

I was going to cut it out in my kayak. Too thick around the edges.
