I posted of pic of the smurfling fillets from my fish last weekend on one of the East coast forums that I'm still a member of.  One of the questions that came up was can you eat lingcod and or rockfish as sushi?  I have never heard of any one doing this but since I'm new to Cali I figured I would ask here!

Not sure I would try it as sushi or not, but it sure looked like some good fish to use as poke or ceviche!!!  Any one ever tried any of these dishes with ling or rockfish?

Unless you like worms in your sushi, the answer is no.

Yeah, just freeze it for a few days. And try to use the shoulders...stay away from the belly section because that's where most parasites are found in RF.

I make my ceviche with fresh rockfish. It's delicious and I have not had any issues whatsoever (done it that way for years).

I do hold my filets up to the sun to check for worms first. I probably miss some, but I doubt they survive the lime juice.

EDIT: Apparently the parasites can survive the lime juice. Maybe I'm just lucky... Probably will use frozen from here on.

Freeze it for two weeks, it will kill anything. By law all seafood at sushi joints must be frozen first.

One of the questions that came up was can you eat lingcod and or rockfish as sushi?

Without proper preparation, you'll need to change your name from Ring King to Ring Worm

LOL! Yeah...I've eaten all of our fish raw at one time or another, but not on a regular basis...

I wouldn't recommend Ling or RCG raw or in ceviche without freezing first, like others have said....

I DO make fresh sushi/ceviche out of Monkeyface...never found a worm in a Monkey, and I have cleaned quite a few!  :smt003

I also have eaten quite a bit of Sheephead sashimi, and think it tastes great...but they do have the occassional worm, so not 100% safe either.

Best raw seafood out here to eat is abalone or scallops or urchins IMO.  :smt007

Sincerely,

Jim
