Fish Junky joined me for an impromptu fishing adventure at the port this AM.  We decided fish out of our kayaks ....of course.   A short stop at Penny’s for some minnows and we were at the barge canal access by 7:30.  We set about trolling/drifting at various points around the turning basin.  Junky scored first with a 3-4 pound striper that slammed a minnow.  He had 2 others throughout the morning but were sub-sized.  I finally hooked up with a minnow drifting close, but not too close, to a ship tied up for loading.  My striper was sub-sized as well but took the skunk off the boat none the less.  I tried trolling with and without a downrigger and used several different setups (deep divers, RatLTraps, swim baits, etc.) but the fish weren’t having it.  We ended the day with the end of the tide at 12:30.  A few others were trolling the area but success for most was absent.  I love the new Hobie; peddling is way better than paddling.  A few photos for your approval…

My view from the office today.

Junky scores.

My FF behaved today after I remounted it inside the hull with the water method.  Thanks for all the help and suggestions fellow members.

My little contribution today.

Junky met this lady in the parking lot and gave her his catch.  She was very appreciative...and somewhat camera shy.

Nice fish, the ship that is there, does it happen to be a Matson ship SS Kauai? Big M on the stack?

I assume the boat?  Outback.  If the fishing rig......live minnow at 20 feet.

Yes it was the Kauai.  Didn't see anyone running around on deck so I guess they're staying a while.

Thanks, I work for Matson, thinking I can fish and inspect the hull at the same time
