When Ryan from CenCal popped in at BWE to promote voting, he claimed SoCals need to keep up on the KACA (yes, that is the acronym). By extension, he was also including NorCals and Hawaiians and everyone else who hasn't been represented in this popularity contest.

It is subject to vote stuffing (less this year) and 'bought' votes (I don't want to go there). Worst of all, candidates who have a strong following outside the core kayak fishing community can and do use it to influence the outcome.

I like and respect Mark and Adam but don't see any reason why the KACA is relevant to the west coast or Hawaii.

Who cares,
We don't really need all that kind of press. Imagine the vibe when the whole world tries to join NCKA.
No thank you, I like what we have and prefer to grow at a positive pace.

See Ya Soon,

Rae is a photogenic TV personality associated with Hobie. I'm not sure how deep her roots go in kayak fishing.

Well, Ashley Rae won it.  What does that tell you?

And The Blog of the Year was one by Jason Self, an internet bully that was banned from NWKA long ago.  He also happened to have all of 7 posts to his blog the entire year.

I said it before the voting and I'll stick to it ... this "competition" needs some quality controls.

YEAH, is what it is. How some of the things even get on there is one thing, I.E. the forum I run. I mean should not even be relevant. But its Sad to see probably the largest forum in the county not win, and anglers that live by kayaking not win.

Was trying to light a fire under that community down there, as that is where I live now and would love for events and gatherings on the south coast, that even if they had half the feeling of a Norcal event would be awesome. I never made it to the Moyer or Plastic Navy or even Jas's events. But personally think things could change down south for the better and bring people together.

Well, I think TKF is the largest kayak fishing forum in the country and they won!  Good for them.

I think most people here don't care, and that's ok too!

Honestly, I don't think that kind of press would change a thing.  I mean, how many of you rushed off to join TKF?  You're not going to see the whole world trying to join our local forum.  Gone are the days of national forums.

Exactly. The most important forum is the one where you stage to fish, dive, hunt, camp, etc. For me that's NCKA.

Welcome to the neighborhood. You're more the vinegar than the honey type, aren't you?  :smt001  There's hope. What's most lacking is one person or small group who will step up and take on the selfless task.

Sure 'nuff, but this one is flawed in its conception. Do I have to say again that I like and respect the guys at YA? Nothing I do is perfect either.

I received a facebook message from Jason Self.  Apparently he takes issue with my characterization of him as an internet bully.

Quote
I consider this slander, defamation of character, cyber-bullying. I a moving to NorCal in 5 days for employment in the paddlesports/kayak fishing industry. You are jeopardizing my reputation. I demand an apology and removal of your post or I will take legal action against you.

Hmmm ... definition of bully.

Quote
bul·ly1
ˈbo͝olē/Submit
noun
1. a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker.
synonyms:   persecutor, oppressor, tyrant, tormentor, intimidator; More
verb
verb: bully; 3rd person present: bullies; past tense: bullied; past participle: bullied; gerund or present participle: bullying
1. use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants.
"a local man was bullied into helping them"
synonyms:   persecute, oppress, tyrannize, browbeat, harass, torment, intimidate, strong-arm, dominate; More

Here is but one past communication with Jason Self, received as a facebook message.

Quote
you are such a friggin jack ass. I would never grace a forum run by such an egotistical ass. your a pretty bad ass armchair QB Allan. Anyone who paddles on the ocean will eventualy have problems. Boy are you going to feal like a dick when it's you or your own. The reason I will never, ever participate in your stupid forum again is because you run it, and you don't like any side of any story or any thoughts contrary to your own. That is a bad way for people to get the right info dude. You're a fucking dick head, and I wish you nothing but turds and vinegar. One day you'll wake up and realize you know less than half of what you think you do, and are in no way qualified to give anyone any advice on anything to do with kayaking. Again, I poop on NWKA and will never say anything good about it to anyone.

Perhaps "internet bully" is not appropriate.  I apologize to Jason Self for characterizing him as such and will immediately remove the reference in my post to him being an internet bully.

Hes going to be working in NORCAL? Where? I need to know. Mr Self is ALL about SELF. If you fish from anything other than a SIS did you know that you aren't really on a kayak according to him? hahahaha Good luck sucka!

I voted but it seems like BS to me. Nothing personal, but that is the kind of recognition we don't need :smt011  we are better than that.

There are things that mean something, that make a difference, that elevate the human race. NCKA does that, Yak Angler does not. Life is short guys, make every moment count, time to move on.
