i have a malibu two xl angler and want to cut out the front and rear circles.
it already has the OK oval hatch in the middle.

heard some hatches can get stuck especially when sand gets into them.
does either the cam lock or gaspachi work better than the other?

When people talk about hatches getting stuck w/sand in them, they are probably referring to the screw-in deck hatches. Sometimes cam-locks can get stuck if you don't clean out the sand or maintain the seal. The gaspachi hatches are easy & simple, but you need a lip around the area you want to install them. And I can't remember if the Malibu 2 XL has the pre-formed lip or not. But I personally like the gaspachis.

I worked with a lot of gaspachi hatches on  multi-day rental boats (where folks use them a lot for snacks, etc.) Sand was always a hassle, but they are solid hatches. I've considered adding them to my tarpon to replace the round rubber hatch lids but I'm too lazy :smt044
If you keep the area of the hatch threads clean you are fine. It is tougher with fine Cali sand then it is with coarser sand.

I've no experience with the cam locks.

The Malibu 2XL does have a lip.

Gaspechi all the way, if you must have hatches.

Gaspachi style hatches can pop off from compression with some kayak models.  Those models should have some kind of reinforcement if possible and have the lids kept in good condition.  Also, it's easy to lose this kind of lid on the road if it's not battened down securely.  A tether is highly recommended.
