I dove SWS last weekend and noticed that the showers were capped off.  The employees were telling me that they've been having trouble with people not moving their cars to the 17th hedgerow and even some people are now bringing trailers for their boats and kayaks.  I spoke with the manager of the beach club and thought I'd pass some of the conversation on.

The showers were capped because some vandals stole the shower heads, the parking is an issue though.  The parking spaces at the club are for members only.  These members pay a minimum of $50,000 per year for their membership and they would like to be able to park in their own lot.  The public parking is located at the 17th hedgerow.  The club allows us to load and unload at the pier but would like us to move our cars if we are going to be there between the hours of 11am to 2pm.  This is their busy time and when the parking conflicts between us and members occur.  DO NOT BRING TRAILERS!!!  The trailers that were there this weekend got warnings posted on them because there were two on the pier, one chained to the fence and one taking up a second parking spot at the clubhouse next to the vehicle that brought it.  There is just no room for trailers.

The rules are printed at the bottom of the little hand out they give you when you pay at the gate.  We should follow the rules if we want to keep our priveledges at SWS, especially if you have a big NCKA sticker on the back of your truck.

Good points!  There really is NO parking around there.  By the 11-2'o'clock hour there is usually a staff person directing traffic within the small parking lot just to ensure the members are able to get in/out within the cramped lot.  It is a short walk from the stairs to the 17Th hedge row.

Let's all be good ambassadors & do our part!  It's a little too obvious if you have a NCKA sticker on your vehicle. :smt002

Thanks for sharing Josh...

YES! Please move your car after you unload...it makes all divers/kayakers/anglers look bad...if the hedgerow spots are full (sometimes happens if you get there late on a sunny weekend) there is PLENTY of free parking just up the road by the last stopsign at the Spa and at the Tennis Courts. Less than 1/4 mile walk back to the beach.  :smt001

Jim

This is an ongoing issue. Nothing new. People should just stop posting about SWS on the internet. And they should only allow Monterey Co residents to access it. Then it'd be like it was 10yrs ago...everybody happy & no out of town riff raff (only local riff raff hahaha).  :smt044 :smt005

Hey hey Im down there almost every weekend. Think I could be considered a local?  :smt003 Im normally the first one there and I had a long talk with the GF last weekend because I heard that she was taking up the first spot all morning sleeping in the truck. Not cool!  :smt011 I told her where to park so she took off and went shopping. uhhh there goes the pocketbook but whatever it takes. She argued that the security guy said the first two spots are okay to park in but I told her I dont care that she needs to get it out of there and be respectful to others and their needs.

I guess if we don't talk about it people forget or they start to hear rumors that it's ok or a certain number of spots are for divers.  The club has posted new signs right at the top of the stairs but some people still think that doesn't apply to them.  The trailers are really an issue because the club sees it as a safety thing if you leave it on the pier or chained to the fence.  If you put it in a parking space it's even worse.  One of the trucks did have an NCKA sticker in the back window so I think it's worth bringing up again because I think that, at least here, we'd all cooperate if we knew what was expected.

I've seen the parking rules ignored / violated there so many times.  If this keeps up Its just a matter of time access gets closed.

Is it time for us to help police the situation?  A little peer pressure might help out.
