Hi guys,

My name is Allen, I'm 29 and primarily fish the delta. I got into kayak fishing last October to fish those hard to find crappie around the docks. Didn't think much of kayak fishing so I got a sundolphin from Wal-mart for $150. After catching some crappie I started fishing bass from the kayak, and then some stripers. Now I'm thinking, why do I catch  more fish and have more fun on a cheap kayak than a $20,000 boat? Whatever it is, I need to upgrade!

After fishing the hell out of that kayak, started looking for a serious kayak. After searching for reviews on different kayaks, I stumbled across this website. WTH? I didn't know kayak fishing was this big in California. My first time on the water, I kind of felt embarrassed. But now I can see why it's taking off. Some really good info here and thought it'd be nice to have more friends that do kayak fishing. I've been fishing the delta by boat my whole life but am now seriously hooked on kayak fishing. Finally settled on a Hobie Outback. Will get it next tuesday. I've recently gotten 5 people from work to buy kayaks for fishing. Success!

Anyways, I hope to see you on the water!

Welcome to the site Allen. My buddy and I normally fish off of 8 mile road at king island marina, and white slough off of 12. Some other good fishing areas that I normally go to is the consumnes river. Maybe I'll see you in one of those areas

Hi Bonafide, I almost always launch off of King Island. I'm surprised I haven't seen you. If I get out late on a weekend and don't want to deal with the waterskiers, the pond west of I-5 and south of Highway 12 is a nice private retreat.

hey allen,

i usually fish from the end of march lane out to ringe rd or further to turner cut, but if there's parking, i'd love to fish off king island.  would love to join you guys one of these days.   used to be one of my favorite places to fish until they closed off access.

I know Allen, and if it is open the farmers close the gate and you'll be locked in. I've fished the I-5 ponds off of 12 and can only catch bass with frogs. Nothing else interest them. There is a big ol bass on the first pond but I can never catch him. I see him 12-15 times a day when I go out there. North of the bridge of 8 mile by king island that island has good bass for frogs and senkos. And on the west side of the island and levy there are great spots about 20' of the levy. Let me know when you all are going to go there

You Stocktown boys are killing me.  It has been super slow even for smallies here in the Walnut Grove area.  May have to head down to White's Slough and some of those other areas you guys fish I see a hookup in the future.  I jet skied roundtrip from Walnut Grove to Garlic Brother's last weekend and saw some awesome cover for LMB.  First time down quite that far.  Everyone up here is waiting for the salmon.

Hi I am new here but certainly not new to fishing & diving.  I came upon the group last year while bobbing  in Albion Cove in a 20 ft Old Town Canoe. For stability reasons, I had upgraded from the previous 17 ft Grumman for skin /scuba diving.  Also do white water canoeing so have fair appreciation of the delicate nature of canoes in general and their limitations.  Have to admit to never swamping one in the ocean....knock on ab shells.   So, last year I picked the brains of some of your members as to what might be a decent kayak for fishing and diving.  I wish I could recall their names.  But before I forget, my name is Tom & am from Sebastopol.  Who ever you were, I thank you and did recently purchase a Cobra Fish n Dive.  So recent that it has yet to make its maiden voyage.  Wheels/cart  having arrived today.  I look forward to joining you folks this year at Albion & will be keeping fingers crossed for great fishing, awesome weather, & a safe trip for all....   Thanks,   Tom...."fishy"

lol Bonafide, I have seen that bass! that guy hangs out at the end of the pond. The first time I saw him I thought it was a carp. He must be 30 inches! I throw Gary Yamamoto worms (green) and they work great.

Sounds like we need toget together for some LMB at White Slough! Also interested in fishing Salmon, Barefoot. I've never fished them before and I would love to learn from the veterans.

thanks for the warm welcome guys.

PS. Is there a NorCal Kayak Fishing Club decal I can buy?

  Welcome to the Madness...  :smt006
I lived in Stockton for over 20 years, until allergies forced me towards the coast.   It's a fishing paradise ,with  all the lakes to the east ,  Calaveras river,  the Delta,  all  so very close it's hard to chose sometimes..    Striper fishing was always my favorite,  sturgeon running a close second.

And yes, there are decals you can .. barter, buy, or win.

Guys I will post a hookup as soon as the chromers start showing in the WG area.  Going to be busy with visiting company next two weekends, but I will gather reports from locals.  Fishinfool01 Mondays are my preference as are any other weekdays as I am retired.  I need to learn more about fishing that Stockton area, but right now am going to focus on the salmon.

Wow Baitman, that's a beautiful striper!

I can do fishing on Mondays, still waiting for the outback to arrive. About that, I haven't broke the news to my wife yet. She'll usually just say "What do you need that for?" I'd educate her on why and that'll be it. I don't even know how to start with this. The funniest thing I read on this forum was a comment saying "My greatest fear is that when I die, my wife sells all my stuff for what I told her I bought it for." That is so true.

If you guys don't see a post from me for a week, my body may be under the 1st bridge on 8 mile road, lol.
