Have you read the comments section? Calling the guy a murderer. Should have released it etc. 900' foot deep rockfish. That would be a successful release. Thing was dead when it hit the surface. Bunch of uninformed tree huggers making comments.

I bet if you eat a fish that old you gain some kind of wisdom.

Darn thing had Old man fish skin!  Can't imagine it had any thing resembling good tasting meat at that age.

41" yelloweye RF from 900ft deep? Yeah, that's a keeper for sure. No other choice really. You have to keep it at that point.
Hey, I'd love to catch a 328 point fish for AOTY hahaha!

Henry Liebman reeled in the record setting catch from a depth of about 900 feet

That sounds like a good time.  Why would anyone fish so deep with a rod and reel?

:smt044  Okay, I remember what my arms felt like when we fished off Davenport in 300' for rock cod, using a 3 hook yarn setup, and reeling up 3 5lb'ers at a time,  THEY hurt! :smt044  Bottom bouncing the 8oz weight, then feeling the hit for each fish, was pretty fun, till it was time to reel them up :smt012  15lbs trying to remain on the bottom and 300' of line out, made for sore forearms!
Now this guy hauls in a monster 41" from 900'?  did he use an electric reel? :smt044 :smt044
His arms must have been jello or perhaps more than one person had at the reel?

Anyone here know which specie is it?  Could it be either a Verm or Yellow Eyes?

Well, the other choice is to fish shallow so release is an option. It's a shame to see such an old fish dead for a few meals, but there are worse things going on in the ocean I guess.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...
