I was up at a West Marine store over the weekend and saw a flyer advertising a 1-day only sale on the Lowrance Elite-5 DSI GOLD Combo Color GPS/Fishfinder for $299.99.  That is a 5" Color Screen with GOLD cartography GPS map chip & DownScan Imaging fishfinder (455/800Hz transducer included).  Ideal for the shallow water, delta & river guys!

Just thought I'd pass the 1-day only deal along!

Is it just a Elite 5 DSI with gold nav chip?

The 000-10245-01 comes with the GOLD chip.  Can't seem to find the 000-10236-01 to see what this unit is?

Sooo.... the only place that I can find that P/N is with TigerGPS.  Maybe a custom package sold to them only.  The GOLD package indicates that it includes the GOLD cartography chip.  The TigerGPS unit does not  ... based on the info I can find.

000-10236-001 is the one from lowrance's website. I was trying to look up the P/N from West marine's website and i couldn't find it anywhere.

000-10245-001 only a few places sell that one.

since this one's only difference seems to be the GOLD chip is included i might just buy one...gotta think hard about it though, i've been moving to lowrance slowly.

Hahaha Al! I think I originally paid like $330 then got the $100 rebate (have not received it yet though). So I'm not mad/jealous LOL! But I definitely regret buying it. And I will never buy another dsi unit again, that's for sure.

I have the Elite 5dsi Gold and love it.  What are your issues with it?

The screen glare is my complaint but I am figuring out how to work around it. I have the 4 DSI and the bottom detail is great to about 150'. It does a reasonable job with bait. I haven't tried it on squid yet. The other issue came up on the salmon troll in water deeper than 200' where you lose the ability to identify bait in the top 100' so you are basically on your own.

I've heard stories of some users able to hit the 140'ish mark with it but it was simply not designed for that type of use.  I try to stear anyone clear of this unit if their primary intended use is 100 FOW or more.  Then there's the issue with transducer installation vs. performance with DSI installs.  The manufacturer suggests that the transducer be direct in the water for optimal performance.
