I check this site several times everyday … I got to know the folks through their posts and comments. I apologize in advance if this topic is not a fit for this forum. I felt I needed to “get it out of my chest” to a bunch of men I feel connected to.

I was married to one of the most powerful and wealthy woman in Berkeley. After a short love story, divorce was at the horizon. Since then, 5 years now, my new family and our 18 months baby are swamped with lawsuits and litigations ( removed fundraising website.....agarcia, out) What’s really fucked up in this amazing country (that I’m thankful to be a citizen of) is that it’s ok to file lawsuits against anyone – and if you’re the respondent, you’d better to have the $$$$ to defend yourself! If not, you’re screwed.

She has made sure I’m broke: she forced to sell my house and got the proceeds, got all my savings and now garnishing my salary … but we’re all here to learn and life is not a bed of roses. So I got to learn that “this is what it is”.

But what really gets to me was that she filed a restraining order, and last Friday the judge approved it for 5 years.
When a RO is issued, you lose your right to own any gun.  I’m a hunter and I don’t need to go on exotic trips – but hunting is my space of freedom. Which now is gone! Oh boy I feel down.

I’m just thinking how many of us, had to put up with such a distorted judicial system! It just takes “her” to say “I’m scared” and you’re in jail. Not to mention the shame and the feeling of being singled out by what’s supposed to make us feel safe, under the lable of Domestic Violence and restraining order.

Are you getting something off your chest or attempting to fund a legal defense to fight your ex wife?

PS....hopefully I'm not coming off as a complete jerk cause I've been in your shoes, with the whole family court deal. It isn't for the faint of heart keep fighting is all the advice I can give.  That....and you can still hunt with a bow.

Life can be a bitch and sometimes you marry one. Good luck. I started over at 35. That divorce was worth every cent. Every cent.

No worries! I feel for you and what you've been through. As for legal defense, I was just down ... this might not have been the right place to post.
Take care.

Hey Charlie,
While I am not really one of the dudes biological speaking, I do feel for you in this terrible situation. Women like that give other women a bad name.

Any chance you can move to a completely different state? Country? Universe? That probably wouldn't help, but at least it sounds good! I think it's terrible that people with money can sue like that, and be so vindictive.

Best to you bro, and consider cleansing the house with sage....

+1 that crap don't happen in this county. They need a legitimate reason hell my mom in law runs the local homeless shelter. She get threats towards her life every time she kicks someone out. She still can't get a restraint order

nearly every day of my professional life!  although I've had a pretty good run of it lately with my outcomes . . .
Legal costs are an artifact of living in these  contemporary United States.  Sux but true.  Holla we want pre-nup, and squirrel away that emergency fund

Happened to my son too. She woke up and called it off when her friends started calling him wanting to console him. She realized He was the good catch not her!!!! Hang in there and take care of your new Family. Go to Your local family services and see if they can help you.
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

It may seem hopeless, but life goes on.  My advice is not to do anymore damage to yourself by acting out.

This will pass. Hard to see sometimes as a young man but it will pass. Maybe only allow yourself a certain amount of time a day to think about it then when that half hour or so is over willfully put it completely out of your mind.

It all gets better homes. What sucks now, will be the best thing that has ever happened to you a year or two from now. RO's are no thang. Stay away, it's that easy.

There's always two sides to every story.  I wonder what her side is?

If you had your house in a trust, bank accounts too, she wouldn't have been able to touch 'em.

I'd also be questioning your right to own a gun.  If you were not convicted of any crime, I just don't believe you can loose your constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms.  Did you admit to anything?  Perhaps you threw a chair or broke some dishes and pleaded to a lesser charge and now that is why you can't own a gun after she filed the restraining order?

If she's so rich and smart, she also knows that purgery is going to cost her a whole lot more than it would cost you by her lies in court.

Alright to play HER game too.  What stops you from making the same accusations; that you are in fear she'll harm you for example.

In any case, good luck getting out of this mess.
