On Thursday morning I went out crabbing and fishing. After cleaning my catch I left the carcases overnight in the cooler outside of the beach house I was staying at to use for crab bait the next day.

I went out that night to hang with the boys at the campsite and when I returned I saw a note on my door saying that there were bears around and not to leave any food out.  :smt011

I've been going to Shelter Cove for 14 years and have never heard of bears down near the homes so I just dismissed it.

The next day I started hearing all of these bear stories from different people which I thought was pretty peculiar.

On Sunday I decided to head over to the camp ground around 5:45 AM to see if my diving buddy was still interested in going out that morning. Since I was there I thought I'd look around to see if I could see the bear too.

After a short time I spotted something out of the corner of my eye and took it's picture. Turns out that it wasn't a bear after all just a wetsuit hanging out to dry  :smt003

More than likely it was a couple of those A-Hulls with a major case of the munchies rumaging through everyones coolers after a long night of partying  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

LOL!

There was a bear.

Multiple folks saw him and Clayman has pics.

He was not too aggressive though and apparently didn't like fish, cuz I spent one night next to the fire and I didn't get eaten and neither did my abalone, uni and fish in the cooler right next to me.

I believe there were actually 2 bears. Both are cubs from the one that got "relocated" last summer. But it's pretty common to get bears wandering through the north side of town and up above Telegraph. They just usually don't make it to the campground.
Maybe these bears are actually NCKA lurkers!!! And they were trying to crash our party!

we stayed Sun night....It was us and Frank/Bunny in the entire campsite. It was odd to have be THAT empty. About 3am heard a crash walked outside and a bag of popcorn have be ripped open and the bear was walking towards the "A Hull" corner. It struck me as a lazy ass camp bear that just looked for easy eats.

That dang bear.  Or bears.  I only ran into one, but she came into my camp every night I was there.  The first night, she came in real late (around 2:30am) and stole tortillas from our cooler.  I didn't see the bear that night, but my brother did because it was a mere 5-6 from him when he was sleeping in his car.  The next night, I spotted the bear trotting through the grass and across the runway, and shortly heard "Bear!  Bear!" through the camp.  On Saturday night, the bear became even more brazen, trotting through the same field and across the runway as before except it was still somewhat light out.  Later on in the night, I heard my girlfriend hollering "Chris! Bear!" in the darkness while I was off chatting with NCKAers.  We set off with our flashlights and cameras and spotted the bear eating the rest of my trailmix.  She let us get surprisingly close.

I saw it the first time Friday night.  Then on Saturday night, I was awoken by hearing someone say "I love boobs" and the sound of a girl giggling.  So I hopped out of my tent, took a look around, didn't see boobs (should have looked around longer) so I went to the portapotty to take a leak.  On my way back from the bathroom I saw the bear cruise by the corner where the Gyotaku was.  And thats just another story of the epicness that was GS7.

Dear Mom and Dad,

I'm having a great time here at Summer Camp.  I'm making lots of friends and eating great food.  We play games and have camp fires.  I learned that if you want to get pistol whipped, all you have to do it stick your head in FishMaster1's tent.  I miss you and will write again soon.

Love, Jeff

I never saw the dang bear!  :smt012  But looked for it a few times.  Pat said he was close enough to throw somthing at it at one point!  :smt044  But at least you didn't have to watch in fear as RMF4-T grabbed a bow and some arrows out of his truck as people started yelling shoot the bear!  :smt005
