Yeah, there's a guy I know in the BA.  I sent him a msg.  I'll get back to you when I hear from him.

You can pm me if you want any advice. I suggest finding a local scrap yard willing to sell it.  $.80-1.00 a lb. Also check your big truck tire shops. I got two hundred pounds for free once from one. Make sure to separate the zinc and steel.

+1 on tire shops. The charter captain we used at Shelter Cove said that's where he gets his for leadhead and iron pours

Scrap yards are pulling $2 a lb for lead these days and most tire shops aren't giving it up anymore.

I've been getting mine from a guy off Craigslist that salvages sailboats for scrap.  .85 a lb and its pure lead, generally in 20lb ingots.  He posts in the sporting section (livermore area) when he has it available.

You'll find some videos on you tube. I think it can be cut with a spilt piece of log believe it or not.  I use a torch if I can't get it into my 200lb pot.

20lbs isn't manageable? :)

The ingots I got were like 5" wide by 16" long.  I just threw em in the pot and let the heat do its thing.

The guy says he has it in 25lb blocks for 85 cents a pound.  He's in Richmond and can meet you half way.

Wheel weights now adays have a high zinc content,  and may not be as safe to use.

I have melted a few hundred pounds of zinc wheel weight. I am saving it till I get a mold I can pour it into. I'm pretty sure zinc is safer than lead but you definitely don't want to mix them.  Zinc will ruin your lead as they don't alloy.  Tin antimony and a few others can be mixed. Zinc usually has a z on it but you can tell by tapping it on the concrete. It's closer to steel and makes a chink sound . Lead thuds.  Zinc doesn't bend. Either.
