Going to do some surf fishing with my dad at GS7.  A few flounder were caught last year and the perch fishing is great there especially thanks to the mulched fish coming from the cleaning station.
Question - when whipping heavy jigs or weights out there is braid OK or should I use mono for the stretch?

Braid should be fine as long as you're not fishing a rock pile. U get better casting distance with braid anyways.

Its pretty easy to lose a whole bunch of expensive braid in the surf if there are any rocks around. The sensitivity is nice though.

Fr surf fishing I've always used 15lb mono main line then from a swivel down its 8lb or so. Light line surf fishing is really fun. I've landed leopard shark and halibut in knee deep water. You have to surf in the larger fish. Gulp camo sand worms cut down to 2" on a #6 hook, Carolina rigged have always produced well for me.

Use braid if it's already spooled onto your reel.

Also, please avoid using a nice reel if u can. There is no way to avoid sand from entering your reel if fishing on a beach, thought I'd throw that out there.

I use 20lb braid with 8-10lb mono leader on my setup.  I'd love to do some surf fishing while up there as well.  Maybe I'll see you out there.

Thursday afternoon, Friday afternoon and Sunday morning, at GS7, one or both of us should  be down at the cove. Maybe taking a light spinning outfit for perch off the jetty and surf rods for crab, flounder or hopefully something bigger off the beach
