I found this topic but its a few years old. http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=16528.0

I what are some ways in protection the hull of a kayak? I don't mind a few scratches but I would like to preserve the hull as much as I can being I'm a noob.

I was jokingly talking with the wife about using Rhino Liner but after thinking about this option it sound more and more like a stout way to go. I could be wrong and that's why I would like some inside info on what you all have done or do and also how was the outcome & how often does it need to be redone?

Don't worry and use the kayak. It will get scratched on top, on the sides, on the bottom. Nothing you can do about it. If its not scratched, its not being used. Have fun and don't worry. Same with drilling holes for rigging, just do it. No big deal.

Safe up and buy a set of Wheeleez. Most the damage is dragging it in and out of the water and with a well made kayak cart you will be amazed how nice the bottom will stay. Also you can add additional protection with a strip of Keel Eazy.

Wouldn't rhino liner add some drag?  What I did to help protect the back part of the keel on my 2nd OB was to add a patch of hot glue to it.  In my case, as I loaded the OB onto my trucks camper shell from the back, the nose went up first, this left the back to drag on the ground a few inches each time I loaded it, I eventually put a strip of carpet down for the kayak to rub on, but the back had some scratches already.  I filled in those scratches with the hot glue, then built up the area to about 1.5" wide and maybe 2.5 to 3 " long.
Then the hull developed the dreaded "Drivewell crack" and I turned it in for my current hull.  I don't drag the back end along the ground now with out either a towel or carpet remnant to protect it.

Keel ez is cool but ive had it peel off arount the extreme bends of the keel where i get most of my damage. I learned this trick from the og's and its held up like no other.

mix up some marine JB weld and apply it to the areas that are going to where out.(cant do all the boat)  :smt005. Its holds up great and gives you an extra tough skin to work with.

I like to have fun.......
