It's been a long time since I've fished for halibut. I miss it and I have a few of you to blame for it. ;) I'm still a newb to NCKA and I have only had the pleasure to paddle with the few that were at the MBK tourney last year. The tension is. growing within the household I live in with the GF and I'm praying we don't wring each others necks before the RF opener. That being said I have searched and searched to find the best product to entice a beautiful butt and or huge ling. As some of you remember a beautiful morning at SWS forwards the end of the season last year, I was the guy that was taking out as most of you were just launching for I had snapped my rod on my biggest ling of the year. Since then I have replaced that rod and found what I feel will get me a little payback. I am READY! These squid are actually called FAT Squid but I'm calling them PHAT Squid because they are pretty hot and tempting. You have the option to purchase them rigged or  unrigged in a lot of different colors. They come with chem lights or you can purchase batt powered led. They are reasonably priced IMHO and they are sexy as hell. I noticed the good ol boy who sent them through in a few extras and I'm not much of a scent guy but since these have a yarn ball attached I figured it can't hurt to go the distance. I hope this helps some of you catch what I have been dreaming of for the last 5 and I hope this allows me to catch some halibut so the GF is happy and allows me more time on OTW. Btw the two on the right are 6" and the three on the left are 10"

I got a tug on that same fat squid last year off Monterey trolling it with a spreader rig soaked in squid juice scent. Eventhough I re-rigged with a smaller circle and stinger treble, I think the fish (hali) that grabbed it was too small.

Dude those ARE sexy phat squid!
How do you plan to deploy them? I'm thinking either a sliding sinker rig (with one of those plastic sliders) or a three-way swivel.

I have picked up nice lings and the occasional halibut by using similar baits (b2 bomber squids) on a 3-way ( :smt003) "bounceball" type setup.

I say they should work!

Im thinking three way swivel. I go Old Skool  :smt002 although the UV Spreaders looked awesome. I think I will work it like I use to in Canada. Main line down to three way, 6" or so of braid to a ball and then 36" to a Phatty all lubed up with that there Love Juice. The slider im sure would work and probably be a hell of a lot easier but for some reason it will look sexier doing the dance without a heavy nose. Just ordered my Elite 4 and scupper mount this morning from WM. Should be all updated and ready for some slab huntin by RF opener. BTW this guys got some good lookin pig sticks (Hali Rods) for cheap on his site. Think Ill pick up one of them as well in the next week or two.

Nice find.  We used to fish large 12-14" squids like that at the islands way back when.  For a cleaner rigging you can run some egg sinkers or a torpedo sinker up in the body cavity, less snaggy over hard bottom.
