I noticed West Marine dropped the price of the Prowler 13 to $559.  I'm still interested in the Trident 13, but the price is a bit out of range.  I'm getting back into kayak fishing /crabbing after selling my Scupper Pro a long while back.  I don't consider myself a hardcore fisherman, so the kayak will be used for other purposes too.
Question: Is the Trident 13 really worth the additional cash for the Mod Pod and the slight differences in kayak width and length versus the Prowler 13 for about 1/2 the price?

Thanks to you NCKA listeners for your expert feedback.

Not owning one, but having looked at them, I would say so.

Get the T13.  The sonar shield and, modular rod pod and easy access to the hull are great features.  Buy the right kayak the 1st time.  Cheap is not the best way to go. you will enjoy it for years, instead of the "I should have" feeling
that hits you later.

Does the prowler have the rod pod feature? Even if its sealed it can be cut out easy enough and have the upgraded rod pod cover installed. Never mind I just looked at the Prowler model they have on sale. For 559 I would buy it. The rod pod feature is nice but money talks. Call  Clavey  Paddlesports or Adventure Sports and see what the bottom line is on The T-13 first though.

The Prowler 13 paddles better and is more comfortable than the Trident. But it doesn't have the versatility of a Trident. If you were going to be fishing 99% of the time, I'd say go Trident. But if you plan to fish 50% of the time, while fun-paddling the other 50%...then consider the Prowler for sure. My only problem with the Prowler is the newer versions (like post-2008?) have a molded-in hatch in the middle...instead of an open hatch to store things inside the hull.

If you decide on the T13 I've got one for sale. Lightly used w/ fish finder for $750.  :smt003

Get the p13 it's a great and versatile boat. Paddles well, surfs well and is very stable and predictable.

Having paddled both extensively, I like the Trident 13 more for overall kayak fishing.

The Prowler 13 is a wetter boat, but also probably paddles a little better, and is a better bargain.

I've paddled the p13 in the bay. I'd rather not comment on it because I know there are people Here who swears by it. One thing I do highly recommend though, is to demo it first! I'm a poor man, real poor in fact. But I do peddle a hobie LOL... I just couldn't see myself going far paddling after my demo on a p13

I will never NOT have a prowler 13, and I can have any Ocean Kayak I want.

Light, versitile, great for long hikes, or mothership trips and I've caught my biggest fish from the P13.

Got my P13 row years back with a bargain price as well. It is light and versatile like everyone says. Best part is it is easy to load and transport. The only complaint I have is that you can't access the hatch while on water.

Sorry it took so long to get back. I got it at Adventure sports in Sac they are factory seconds and 2010 models but could not find any blems. It was 60.00 shipped to my door and cost 700.00. It came with nice paddle and seat. I Love it . Greg
