I am guessing the author is a philospher, at some prestigeous University who never had to worry about food on the table for his family, taking care of a sick relative, or served his nation.  Nice to have eutopian ideals, but reality is a something else.  I deally we should seek balance between both worlds.  Yeah we do things we hate, only so we can go on to do something else.

If everyone had this attitude, who would want to be a janitor, or a metermaid, or all the other horrible jobs that need to be done. Do what you love is a cheap philosophy, love what you do takes a lot more work.

Yeah....I do my job to put food on the table for my family and keep the roof over their head.

I love them and know that I need to provide for them, so do things I don't love for them...

And, I'm cool with that.

Amen to that... +parenting +family commitments +social commitments. Well rounded is the way! Friday and weekends wouldn't be sooo great if you never did work in between... Some of the upcoming generation hasn't figured this out yet.

I look at my job as what makes the rest possible and learned to enjoy it for that reason. (enjoy not Love )

My guess was that it was a student(s) or someone fresh out of college.  I thought the video was artistic, some great footage, the message.....halfassed and relatively condescending.

He did not suggest that money was meaningless... just that it should not guide life choices.  He said whatever you chose, if you become an expert in it, you can eventually charge a reasonable fee to do it.  Like horseback riding... he doesn't say "well go ride horses"  He instead suggests becoming an instructor.  I agree in large part with the things he is saying.  In general, I believe the human condition has been broken.  Our very way of life is broken.  So much of what we do is unnecessary or unneeded.  My job exists only because people love to consume... it is not born of any REAL need.  Life really could be simpler... in another world maybe.  This one is over populated, and overcomplicated.  It doesn't HAVE TO be that way.  It just IS that way.  On an individual basis, you can make the choice to break free of it... look around this site.  Some of us spend one hell of a lot more time fishing than others.  Those are the guys who have figured that out in some cases.  I wish I was one of them... but I still haven't figured it out myself.

Except it takes an incredible amount of talent and drive in order to succeed.  And even if one does achieve expert status, consider how many incredible artists, (for example) died broke.

Yeah... there are some obvious exceptions.  He sorta eluded to that at the beginning by mentioning poets, and painters.  I understand this advice isn't for everyone.  It's more of an "in a perfect world" scenario.

I understand the concept,,,,,,,,,,,,,,for most tho I'd have to rate it as a crock.

I've often thought of my job as "what I do there" gives me the means to do other stuff when I'm not there.
