The Stripers on Kayak at Lake Mendocino article by SCWAFish used to be on the home page - is it still around? A basic search did not find it  . . . .

Not sure what happened to the article, but I assume it was taken down because that fishery is doomed since they no longer plant them there.  Major bummer... that used to be one of my favorite things to do on spring and summer evenings.

Wow.  Blast from the past.  That article was taken down a L-O-N-G time ago.  I do have a copy of it.  Is there something specific you are looking for?

Also, we haven't done a good job of keeping our articles here fresh and exciting.  Any volunteers looking to get published?

I believe it was removed (at Sean's request) to specifically not give a how to guide to further damage the fishery (if there's anything left).

That's the way I remember it, I could be wrong.

It's a huge bummer... There are some still in there.  I hooked 3 one night last year.  But, it's inevitable that they are going the way of the dodo.

I don't see why stripers can't thrive there, that lake abundant with bait.

The lake is not suitable for reproduction.  Sean has said that it has happened on rare occasions but that it wasn't enough to sustain the striper population.

Exactly... As I understand it, Striped Bass require a minimum distance of running water before they will spawn effectively.  Cold creek (the main tributary) does not provide sufficient distance.

It was actually Juan's post that got me thinking it was worth another shot.  It was the first time I had tried for them in 4 years.  I miss the old days of going to Mendo just knowing you could catch em.  Now they are planting trout in there, which I just don't get.  That lake is way too warm for that I would think.
