I'm going next year with some of my muggles. Just put the money in its own account.

A few questions:

1 - A few people showed interest in going. Well, we're going next year. Who is serious about going? Let me know because we'll be handling most of this through PMs. This will be a 4 day/5 night gig. Pretty much all inclusive. Boat fishing, not kayak.

So far it's myself, possibly my dad, Fish Master1, and Struccdog.

2 - Does anybody have any experience with any of Sitka's lodges? If so, care to share what lodge you booked and how the trip went?

Thanks! I've done all of the on-line research. I'm mainly just looking for first hand accounts.

I've actually found a few of Alantani's old reports from up there.

I fished Sitka a few years ago, June 2002. Went with my dad, brother in-law and his son. Stayed at the Kingfisher Lodge. We had the same boat and guide each day. They did a great job with transportation to and from the boat. The food was good, the lodge was clean and comfortable. Each day the lodge employees would clean and cut the fish as requested. Then they would vacuum wrap and flash freeze the fish. We each had two big boxes of frozen fish waiting for us at the airport when we departed.

Our day on the water would start with limits of salmon, then halibut. We would finish off with rock fish. I believe we were there for three days. Beautiful conditions each day.

A high school friend of mine owns Talon Lodge in Sitka. I've never been there, but it looks nice on the website.

I'd love to go back and bring my son along. Someday...

Hope you have a great time,
Al

One of the brothers who own this place lives near Petaluma.    I met him while he was teaching paddling classes at Ft Baker.          The place is right on a major dock, so charters shouldn't be a problem.    Give em a call, they will give you good advice on which captain to go with.
I've not been there myself, but they have 4 Raptors on site.  !!!     :smt002

Thanks for the info, fellas. That's exactly what I'm looking for.

Kingfisher is definitely in the top three from the research I've done so far.

It's not cheap. Figure just under 3k for the lodge/fishing and I've seen anywhere from $600 to $800 for airfare.

I figure this could very well be a once or twice in a life time thing for me, so I want four days fishing. You could always book two or three days of fishing. It seems to be about $500 more per day at most places.

Just google Sitka fishing lodges if you're interested.

A bit less expensive around Ketchikan area but I agree...could be my one and only trip to Alaska. Would be nice to have at least a group of 4 to possibly have a boat mostly to ourselves.

Most of the places I've looked so far only take 4 to 6 people per boat.
